Capilano University Bike Swap To Conquer Cancer

Mar 26, 2010
by Jon Durham
A fresh riding season is upon us now and that calls for new bike gear. Need to buy some new parts or a whole bike? What about getting rid of some of the bike stuff from your basement/garage?

Come out this Saturday to the Capilano University Bike Swap To Conquer Cancer. Details inside,The purpose of the Capilano University Bike Swap to Conquer Cancer is to provide the community a venue to buy, sell and trade used bikes, parts and related equipment at a fair price; all while raising money for The Ride to Conquer Cancer.

To sell products in the bike swap we are asking for a small consignment fee that will go straight to the Ride To Conquer Cancer. For parts and soft goods we will be asking for $2 and $5 for bikes/frames. If you have a lot of items to enter then a deal can be worked out. Drop off of parts, soft goods and frames will be taking place at Capilano University's Sunshine Coast campus from March 24-26 from 12-1pm and 4-6pm (only 4-6pm on the 26th). Whole bikes can be dropped off the morning of the event between 10 and 11am at Connor Park.

The event will be taking place Saturday March 27th at the Connor Park Dirtjumps in Halfmoon Bay on the Sunshine Coast. The event will also be running at the same time as Day In The Dirt presented by Capilano University, which was a project to rebuild the Connor Park Dirtjumps and then hold a skills clinic, demo day and jam session on the 27th. Clinics will be taught by local pros and there will be fun for the whole family!

Brule...did not mean in any way to dis your late posting [ anyway, first time event is never easy for organizers ] so...logistics schmojistics! i jumped in my JW [ jeep wannabe ] w/ my rides to sell and swag...left on fri. eve.ferry...it cost me much more to go from Psychitslano to the Swap than the few bucks i made, and i would do it again...a HUGE SHOUT OUT to all the young blood that did right for cancer patients and made my time there loads of fun...and the new park was a 'diamond in the rough' ! jc. [ cool irony - sold my Hectic day after my return ]

Good work Jesse! Unfortunate that more of your swag didn't sell.

The event succeeded strictly upon the goal of providing people to buy/sell bike stuff. There were over 100 products that we had not including all the stuff that Jesse brought in. Just an fyi too, there was just under 200 bucks of product sold and just under 100 bucks raised for cancer.

Being the first year of this event, we have built a foundation for next years MBO class to build off of and make a really awesome event.
