After several days of dry dusty practice the rains began with a late night/early morning downpour that changed the track conditions to wet and greasy. First up in this morning's practice were the women...

photo
The ruts are deep and greasy at this point. It went from dusty and loose to scary after epic thunderstorms last night. Rain is on the schedule every day through Sunday now, so things could be interesting come Sunday.

Again photos simply do not do this track justice when it comes to steep. This is bloody stupid steep. The heavy downpour made the track a bit of a mess for the Elite Women and Junior s practice. Rachel had two words for the track conditions absolute rubbish.

Flats and 5.10s. Pom-Pom is looking extremely focused.

Claire Buchar looks to be extremely comfortable. She missed the entire World Cup this year but put in some solid enough races in North America to make the team selection for Canada.

Canada's Junior ripper Lauren Rosser surprised everyone last year when she took time out of her XC schedule to race DH at World's... and won. This year she is looking fast and comfortable, even in this morning's mud.

Sabrina Jonnier has been pretty quiet this week. Focused. Even though popular opinion has Pugin or Pom-Pom as front runners Sabo is never one to be forgotten.

Looking down on Tracy Moseley in the same turn. Moseley competed in the team relay yesterday aboard an XC machine interestingly enough.

Emilie Signethaler was one of the only women to jump all 3 of the booters this morning, in the grease no less. Rachel Atherton laughed and only had one thing to say after hearing about it... "Oh, great."

photo
Lewis Buchanan was one of the early guinea pigs on the 3 big jumps this morning. Flat light and lots of grease, Lewis made it look easy.

photo
The berms here are people deep at times...

photo
It was all about just making it down the track this morning. More than a few big names decided to walk the track instead of riding it.

photo
Makin' the mud fly... Brendan Yrttiaho gets a bit wild his first run of the day.

photo
The Bulldog is riding the track as if it is dry and could be on the box come Sunday if he can keep it together.

Doggy tearing through the mud. Thanks to Flipper and the terrible light for pushing me to get some ridiculous pans in this morning. i owe you!

Matti Lehikoinen has had a few rough years with injuries. This year he has stayed in one piece, and we're all crossing our fingers that he can pull out a great result here at Champery.

Brendan gets 2 shots today because he's having fun riding his bike again. When Bredawg has fun, everyone wins.

It wouldn t be a World Champs without some trials riding and the course designer for the Trials World Champs is mental. There are a number of sections that riders need to clear the river crossing was just one of them. Although it was perhaps the most difficult one. Riders were forced to cross the river twice.

Flats or clips seems to be a big question in the pits. With the mud today a lot of racers like Cam Coler were seen quickly swapping out clips for flats.

Justin Leov only took one run today. More to feel out how the track is in the wet than anything else.

I'd say Aaron Gwin is no longer the favorite??? Minnaar or Hill if he's healthy now.
  • 6 0
I'll still put money on Gwin, but it would be really sweet to see Sam put together another rediculous race run.
  • 6 0
I want Peaty to take another, and I REALLY wish Smith was racing this weekend. But I won't complain if Gwin takes it, hell I won't complain no matter who takes it.
  • 2 0
I wouldn't necessarily say so... He's still just as incredible as always, however I think here at worlds with the return of hill and such, there are going to be a lot of riders to get stoked on.
  • 2 0
I dont think, that Sam will get on the Top 3. A shoulder injury involves lots of recovery and build up but I'm interested how the result will be!

Sysics: He did it last year didnt he?

Danny Hart and Troy Brosnan have been the most exciting guys to watch this season in my opinion. Gwin was untouchable - obviously - but i'd love for one of these boys to get onto the top step for Worlds...

Glad it rained though, will make for incredible action! Anyone know if there will be a free to view replay on freecaster after the live stream has finished?

 Only 14.99 € on Freecaster.

That pic with Stevie Bell makes me think that I think I'm using too little sealant, even if I'm 500% less likely to loose it by smashing the tyre into a burms like Gee does... it's like a bloody 500ml there still left in the tyre

the way our country is going were proble gona be riding wooden bikes too

I still think Bryceland is the wild-card the way he's been progressing this season. It's going to be a battle royale for sure!!!

does the tire really need that much sealant??? wow thats a lot!!
  • 1 0
I thought that, but then he probably stores lots of it in that water bottle and he's actually just started pouring this particular tyre in. That whole bottle would 1/4 fill a tyre lol.

 brendan's kit is soooooo sick!!!!

  • 1 0

Can't believe some walked the track...?
  • 11 0
I know. God forbid you walk something before you ride it...
  • 7 0
I think you read it as some walked it as they weren't able to ride it whereas the reality is that sometimes you're far better off walking a track while practice is ongoing to see what others are doing. Especially when practice goes on for so many days it's all about making best use of your time - and sometimes that's by not riding, despite it perhaps seeming at odds with what those on the outside would expect.
