I’m standing with Steve Mitchell in the basement of the house he has just purchased on the North Shore. It seems the basement is what he is most interested in. He is showing me his layout plans. Bike shop there…bike storage here, bike museum here. Bike shop…bike museum?

Steve is in his mid thirties and has bought his first home to start a family, house his business but more importantly, store the thousands of bike parts, frames and bikes he has amassed over the last fifteen years.

Steve Mitchell grew up on the North Shore in the 80’s and has been playing on bikes in the forest here since his early teens. His career has developed here too. He started out sweeping floors and breaking down boxes in a local bike shop, then found a job working for frame building legend, Paul Brodie, sanding welds and doing finish work on hand built frames. A stint in race and tech support led Steve into the sales business and he eventually formed his own agency. Now he is the B.C. rep for brands like Devinci, Maxxis, Surly and of course Chromag.

Steve has created an environment around himself that symbolizes his appreciation for mountain bike engineering and his love for biking in general. This was a story that needed to be shared and it seemed a perfect theme for our ‘hardtails-on-the-shore’ edit.

It's fitting that the first employee of ‘Mitchell Agencies’ would be a Mitchell Forbes, who moved out west from Ontario and became immersed in a lifestyle and career centered around bikes. Mitch is the shop mechanic here, on-road demo fleet handler and sub-rep for all things under the agencies’ umbrella. Not a bad job when you roll out onto the trails at the end of each day.

Dan Skogland grew up on the North Shore, but didn’t actually discover mountain biking here until 2000 when he took his first run down A-line. Since then, he’s put his time in at the bike shop, on the DH race tour, and as a trail builder. Bouncing between North Van, Pemberton and Whistler, he is a regular on our rides around the corridor.

It's three years later and Steve’s home and business have taken form just about exactly as he envisioned it. This place is a common start point for our rides on the Shore and perhaps, more importantly, a finish place featuring sauna, dunk pool, and fire pit. Not a bad place to have a few beers and wrap up a day's riding.

Why the new video player?! Its even worse than the Red Bull one...Still, awesome video Smile
  • 12 3
Why the video isn't fullscreen in fullscreen mode?
  • 18 5
 Goes full for me...?
  • 18 2
1st time I've ever had to let a video buffer till the end before it plays smoothly.
  • 20 11
Im seeing a lot of complaining about this new video player, however its worked fine for me all day including fullscreen. Perhaps its a problem with your internet browser/connection?
  • 12 0
I too am having issues with this player. No issues with youtube or any other video service.
  • 4 0
When I go fullscreen, the size of the video remains the same, it only goes to the top of the screen (the rest is black).
  • 3 3
Video works properly only via Firefox for me. Chrome - video isn't going to start after hitting the play button, IE - no controlling buttons.

if it aint broke.. break it ? why the POC player?...substandardvideo.net more like Frown

This video is awesome. I had to watch it without sound because of where I am sitting and although I don't know if they are all Chromag bikes or not, it looks like Chromag shows their evolution of bikes, and ends with them giving up on fully's because they don't know how to make them haha. (although I think they are just getting into frames now).

BY THE WAY, you guys need to stop bitching about the video player. Its new, its going to be better, but its glitchy right now. It clearly has better characteristics than the old player. You can start the video anywhere for example. And the full screen bar is movable, you don't have to wait for it to pop up to change the volume/ place in the video, because it actually does it when you move the mouse.

That being said, its fine to report what's going on wrong. For me, chrome doesn't work in full screen YET. The screen goes black and I can't click on anything so I have to just hit escape to get out.

Full screen didn't work, but still better than the old piece of crap video player!

 Chrome works fine for me...

Hello PB, the trick is to make the vid play smooth on few generations older browsers and computers, not to force us into downloading latest software and buying latest gear to use your site, thank you.

i agree with brigand. My computer is 5 years old and this player barely works at all. looks more like a slide show, old player worked fine. vimeo youtube work fine. No way i am getting a new comp, would rather buy bike stuff.
  • 1 0
Am I the only one who has always had problems with chrome? It has never loaded stuff for me and been generally harder to work with. Even tho the upload speed is faster than IE, it restricts so much. Maybe im the only one with this problem but IE has served me very well. And in this case, the video played perfectly the whole way thru in full screen. Not a problem. Old computer too. Sick edit. Killer brand. Get it Chromag!

Can't play this damn video on my computer with Firefox. It's basically like watching a slideshow. I hope pinkbike works this crap out. Videos are the only reason I check this site out.

A ) need more videos like this - no insane, suicidal drops or neck breaking backflips, just fast, fun, flowing riding.
B ) this video makes me want to ride.
C ) I just hope I'm this fast on trails once I've got my Cotic BFe built up.
D ) This videos proof that beer after a ride is always a good thing.
  • 1 0
Agreed, it's a great video becuase it is probably how a lot of us ride. I for one want more if this sort of video.
  • 5 0
just to add to the data points: I'm in Chrome and when I go full screen, the image is blank (as in black. won't play). Also, couldn't get it to go full screen on my Android device (S3). otherwise, sweet vid. livin' the dream. nice.

Come on now.. It's not like it's some american bud or coor's.. Okanagan Springs makes some quality brew at a good price point. Only Mitch is married to those Pilsner's in the photo.. Thanks for watching!

Can someone please explain to me why i cant watch any videos on pinkbike anymore??????? Is it the computers im trying to use????? I fall into the 30 something catagory of guys that spend more time working and riding than on the computer, so if its something simple, please let me know!!!!!!!

Couldn't not watch a video with whatever in it! I I haven't seen Steve for nearly 15 years, but now we both have the same helmet! Could only watch the first minute here, but the whole lot played on dirt.mpora.com/video-clips/hard-tail-heaven.html
  • 1 0
This is the first time I have actually noticed hardtails featured in a video without large piles of dirt involved somehow. Gread vid, and I thought the video player worked just fine. (except for the buffering, full screen issues, etc. that everyone else has been having...)

 sick video guys!
im a little shocked though, this is pinkbike and no one has made a smart ass anti 29" comment.
could it be that pinkbikers are starting to accept the 29" north shore thing?
i think the video may just disprove all the 29" haters
  • 1 0
Good comment. I think 29ers are here to stay.
  • 4 0
What the hell do i need to watch this thing?
  • 2 0
Hardtails ruled, rule and they will always rule. Sometimes relaxed flow y riding can be as good as riding full bore. Great video!

Now I'm driving FS bike with 160mm travel, but still I can't sell my Bulls HT cuz I still like more that feeling when you hit rocks with HT bike and when you fell everything. Smile Now, HT is in my room Smile

Memories I had looking at those bikes hanging up on the walls - I remember each one and had friends who rode them for better or for worse!! - what a difference.
