Chromag Riders First, Second, and Third on the Podium at Mt. Seven Psychosis, Golden, B.C.

This Ninth Annual Mount Seven Psychosis race at Golden B.C. proved to be one of the most challenging years for the race course to date. Due to the extremely dry conditions, riders found it particularly hard to control speed on the steep sections of the “Dead Dog” and “RTC” pitches. “There were a lot of high speed crashes this year” said Paul Taylor, course official “riders just couldn’t control their speed”.Chromag riders Kevin Phelps, Trevor Lumley, and Yoshi Tsuji, proved they had the skills, placing 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, respectively on the podium in the “Hardtailers” category. Phelps set a new course record for the third year in a row despite having to pass riders at four points on the course. He was the only Hardtail rider to hit the road gap this year and even managed to use the 40’ floater as a passing opportunity. “I had a great run… I felt strong and had no arm pump at all…” said Phelps “I was a little worried since I haven’t been riding downhill much this year but it all came together on race day”. Phelps, who is known to be a fierce competitor in a broad variety of bike events spent most of the spring concentrating on the “B.C. Bike Race” 7 day XC stage race where he and his partner managed to place 6th overall. “I basically had enough time to do laundry and change my tires before we left for Psychosis...”

Riders from the Chromag family have been on the podium consistently at Psychosis over the last four years; however this was the first year for all three spots to be claimed by the team. Trevor Lumley from Nelson, B.C. placed second despite never having ridden the course till this weekend, and Yoshi Tsuji made his way to third on the grueling course.

The Mt Seven Psychosis is known as one of the most technical and grueling DH courses around, with over 4000’ of rugged single track descending. The Red Bull hosted event, organized by the Golden Cycling Club of Golden B.C. and has made a name for itself as a true rider-oriented event with some of the best natural single track riding going.
