Contest: Win a Whistler Bike Getaway

May 30, 2013
by Mike Kazimer
Whistler, British Columbia, is synonymous with lift-served mountain biking, and for good reason. The Whistler Bike Park offers miles of trails for the intermediate to advanced rider, everything from technical, jump filled runs to swoopy, bermed trails that bob and weave through the towering fir and cedar trees. But while the bike park often steals the spotlight, there are countless other opportunities for adventure on and off the bike in the Whistler area. The cross-country riding is world class, with miles of challenging trails offering spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

Plus, if you find yourself worn out from all the hours of saddle time, there are plenty of rest day activities. Spend a day people watching and checking out the excellent eateries in the Whistler Village, go whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, swimming... the options are endless.

 Go damn Racist yanks/Canadians!

How can you have a worldwide website and the tell over 50% of the readers I'm sorry but this one is not for you! Even if the airfare is more from outside the US, they could offer subsidy to non resident winners!
  • 19 1
Totally with these guys!! I live in little old NZ. We don't have any paid MTB travel contests, come on Pinkbike
Worldwide contest, pleeeeaassseee. Smile
  • 6 3

  • 13 3
He uiuiuiui, even here in Quebec, I can't enter the contest. It's like being in jail to be a quebeker in that canadian scheme. Politics and rules to the garbage.

Don't gripe to me. residents of NY are out too!
  • 7 0
Encore une fois de plus ... Vive le Québec !!!! Yé (ironie)

  • 2 5
 Just entered! Hope I win!!!
  • 8 11
Patpero, you damn Quebecer's deserve to be in jail...
  • 2 0
Yeah whats with new york being excluded?
  • 3 0
The reason why most international countries and states like NYC aren't included in contest like this is because the contest guidelines set by government in those areas don't allow it. It's not impossible but there is an extensive process and cost to do so.
  • 7 1
Quebec is still part of Canada??, just kidding
  • 3 1
WHY NEW YORK??? why can't I enter in New York? this no make sense
  • 2 2
Mexico is very close to USA and Canada (I'm less than 2 hours away from US in car) and still we are not included.
  • 3 3
 Hell,let's boycott Whistler,Fox and Rocky Mountain !
  • 2 0
Just one more reason I heart NY
  • 6 0
We'll trade Quebec for Alaska, deal?
  • 2 0
What!? That's like trading a supermodel with fleas for an uptight french librarian with a bug in her butt!
No way. I was just about to offer you NYC for Vancouver.
  • 1 0
No deal only because Vancouver is pretty close to whistler and the north shore
  • 1 0
 I figured.

In hopes of answering comments regarding the entry requirements for this contest the hosting partners are restricted by conditions imposed by Regional Laws and Regulations regarding contests:

Quebec Residents:

Unfortunately Quebec residents are excluded from this contest. The Regis in Quebec imposes very strict regulations around contests which require an involved approval process, generation of bilingual rules as well as a fairly large fee which is not required elsewhere in Canada. While we would very much like to include Quebec residents, these regulations make the process very difficult for many companies. You will find that many large companies and publications will exclude Quebec residents in contests.

New York Residents:

Unfortunately New York residents are excluded from this contest. The lottery and gaming laws in New York imposes very strict regulations around contests that contain a prize values of over $5,000. These regulations require an involved approval process, as well as a fairly large fee which is not required elsewhere in Canada & USA. While we would very much like to include New York residents, these regulations make the process very difficult for many companies.

Other countries:

All countries have their own local laws regarding contesting and sweepstakes. Due to the varying fees and regulations within each Federal, State, Provincial and Municipal government, unfortunately we can only permit the residents outlined in the rules and regulations to enter the contest.

 Yeah, NY sucks. Thanks anyway.
  • 50 1
Whistler is about to get a whole lot uglier if I win this. And Thomas Vanderham will have never ridden slower in his life...
  • 2 0

  • 4 0
correct if ur not english canadian or american !
  • 12 0
Why can only people from the USA and Canada enter this contest?
  • 8 1
yeah totallly it 's like 200 times easier for them to get there but let s help them a bit more.......don't make sense but for those who can play enjoy it.....i m gonna go for a month on my own
  • 2 1
It could be due to the budget, it certainly would cost more to fly someone to Whitsler from Europe than from Oregon.
  • 8 1
=( oh no, another contest for US and Canada
When I saw this contest I was like "OMG OMG I'm gonna win a trip to Whistler!"...then I went to Entry Form thinking "OMG OMG I have to select my country in this form"...and then I was like "FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!!!!"
  • 4 0
Why can't these contests allow entry for people all around the world but just cap the amount of money that's put towards airfares? I can understand that the bike community isn't made of money so companies can only afford to give away a certain amount of prize money but I'm sure people would be willing to put in even half of the cost of air fairs if it means a chance for a cheap trip.
  • 7 1
  • 1 0
bet you dont want to seperate now huh?
  • 1 1
Most of Quebec doesnt want to separate... separation was a thing of the past which some stupid politicians wish to hang onto nowadays unlike the rest of the province -.-
  • 1 1
The thing is for Quebec, the regulations have to be in french....what a joke!!! And yeah, most of us don't want to seperate! You would be amazed at how many contest we cannot participate...
  • 5 0
Thanks alot pinkbike! of course every member here is from the westcoast of america!
  • 3 1
i don't get how you guys can complain: 'damn, i wish i didn't live in new zealand'
my nearest trail centre is an hour and a half away, and i live in a really flat area. 70% of my mtb appetite is fed on the internet, with a measly 30% being actual riding. you guys should look out your backyard more often and make the most of what you can ride
  • 2 0
I feel your pain...... I hate the flat lands of Lincolnshire.
  • 1 0
London is even worse. Best place to ride is an hour and a half away but is very flat but at the same time very fun. Best place I've been to so far is Glentress.
  • 1 0
Nevermind that in Ireland it's worse, it's an hour drive to any half decent trails for me. Even worse when you can't drive. All trails are either illegal or thanks to kind farmers. Government/Coillte (forestry commission) couldn't care less. They ask hikers through Facebook to report any illegal trail building and then spend thousands destroying voluntary work done away from the paths. They even stopped the biggest race the country had in the EPIC Blast. The only uplift in the country is on a pedally track that wouldn't know a descent if it slapped it in the face. Granted, there is a new trail centre in Rostrevor in N.I but that's a 2 hour drive each way from Dublin and a change of currency. Even those in mainland UK complaining, you still have the likes of Fort William, and a good few bike parks. Nothing like that exists in Republic and never will because hikers and amateur sports deserve millions of euro of funding and support yet MTB desrves nothing. How we have a national DH series I can only admire the work that goes into it, I do not envy them. The volunteers make the best of what we have, which is practically nothing.
  • 1 0
Had a Mate go riding in Ireland (he didn't specify where) but he said he found some really good spots.
  • 1 0
well where i live... it takes me 400 hours by jet plane and when i get there the trail has been shut down by the local conservational group.
  • 1 0
Well Scotland is only 8 hours north and we have lovely trails... Jus' saying... Wink
  • 2 0
Most of time certain areas are included or not included because of legal BS. In my case I am excluded because my first name only has 2 characters and the entry from requires a minimum of 3...Web form FAIL!
  • 2 0
 WHAT is your first name?
  • 1 0
Ty I just added my middle initial to enter.
  • 1 0
I'm british but live in california. I should not only win this, but claim it as a victory for the whole rest of the world. As a message of good hope to my geographically challanged comrades I shall spend the entire weekend wearing nothing but knee pads and my full face!
  • 1 0
 will you now???
  • 4 1
lmao, calm your tits kids, no need to get your panties in a twist just because its a us/canada contest only
  • 1 0

  • 4 0
Hells yeah, here have some bacon too!
  • 2 0
in the rules section of this contest, I dont recall reading where the winner, if a US citizen, were to win the first prize, that they needed a valid passport.
  • 1 0
Duh, you need a valid passport to get into the country thus to claim your prizes.
  • 2 0
Come on Pinkbike like what the hell? $500 prepaid Visa could easily cover a plane from anywhere outide Canada and USA.
  • 2 3
haha what? look at airfares buddy its around 1400 bux there and back from here
  • 6 1
1400 for what? I don't want your champagne, I'll settle for easyjet cargo bay if it means whistler
  • 1 0
Certainly the $500 Visa + the airfare they are prepared to pay to US/Canadians.

Pretty sure a return flight from Heathrow is about £600ish
  • 1 0
Cheapest rates I've ever had for a Canadian return flight from Glasgow was around £530 with Air Transat. So that's a touch under $840 CAD.
  • 1 0
Arrrgh god damn it. another overseas only contest. an this looks so good. why are never included in these sweet sweet contests. why pinkbike why?
  • 2 0

So , mes cheres quebequois, Comme to join the EEC Wink
  • 1 0
i have to agree with all the pinkbikers from around the world. Why isn't the contest open to everyone? It would make sense from a marketing perspective you would think.
  • 2 0
What the f*ck? because i live in quebec i cant participate? this is bullshit
  • 2 0
i wish i didn't live in an acceptable part of canada so i too could complain about this contest. brb, entering contest.
  • 1 0

  • 1 0
Hey, the chance of somebody wining this thing is dismal
  • 2 1
WTF, im canadian(quebec) and i can't enter the contest.
  • 11 1
Quebec insists on being different/independant from the rest of Canada thus have their own set of rules and laws regarding contests, which means more fees the companies have to pay. That's why Quebec is left out most of the time.
  • 1 0
I´m from Spain, how to go to Whistler Bike Park? I would like to...
  • 1 0
Getting a plane ticket would be the first step.
  • 1 0
 Excluding Quebec... Darn! Frown
  • 3 1
Quebec wants to exclude themselves from Canada, so why not exclude them from this contest. Sorry, felt like being a bit of a d1ck
  • 1 0
You're late, my friend. Quebec has voted "no" to two referendums in 1980 and 1995 and there's no plan as of now to get out from Canada.
  • 1 0
@Pinkbike, the mobile link to the contest is broken Frown
  • 2 0
