Grassroots Racing-Couloir Downhill Racing Club

As a Parent in town, I am very excited about a unique club which has been established for youths 14 and up. A group of expert downhillers wanted to share their passion, knowledge of a compelling, challenging sport, and have designed a program to expertly guide teenage and young adult mountain bikers into the realm of serious racing.According to Noel Edwards, owner of Couloir Ski & Bike and expert racer, “finding loopholes in the industry to help bring the grassroots of sports back to kids, is essential. Racing teaches sportsmanship, teamwork and strategic thinking, which helps build self-confidence and identity”.

The club offers 13 days of coaching, 16 days of riding, 6 DH Races, 8 weeks of training and all uniforms and DH bikes are included in the program! Brodie Sports thought the concept was such a great idea and there is nothing like it to date, they have sponsored the program and are providing all the DH bikes for each child.

When asked how the idea was formulated, Edwards said there are so many kids who come into the shop on a regular basis asking how they can get involved in mountain bike racing, he sat down with the other experts on their team (Aaron Clark, Colin Davis, Paul Kerfoot and Neil Fox, who collectively have over 20 years of outdoor/mountain sport leadership experience, as well as medically trained and certified) and together they came up with this incredible program. This team understands the concerns of safety and the need for supervision in developing proper skills for such high risk sports.

Comparable to a hockey league, when you sign up your child, all you do is drop them off and the rest will be looked after. No added expenses! Parents can be as involved as much or little as they like. You can come to the races and see what your kids have learned! Your kids will learn the ins and outs of what is required to be a part of this ever-popular sport! I certainly would feel better knowing that if my kids were to be involved in such a challenging sport, they were in the hands of the experts!

So parents……time is running out. Sign up quickly as space is limited. The program starts June 16th and watch your children experience a unique opportunity in this first- time ever program and watch them get fit, develop skills, grow and learn….and most importantly – have fun!
