 Stairs are easier.

 Do you even ride bro?
  • 6 8
2-3 times a week and if it's in the dark then it's often stairs. During a day forest trails.

Thats why it's called urban downhill man...

You just got to have the point of majority on Pinkbike. Individual equals wrong. This is called communism.

Hey now, if you grow up riding in an urban environment I can see how stairs are easier... then again it's never easy on your bike Frown

In my opinion stairs are easier because they start and end at clearly visible points. Stairs, apart from Favela, are generally even so the slope is constant and relatively flat. They cannot be steeper as they were built for people to walk. This is all due to law according to which they are built. There are two parts characteristic to remember, the beginning and the end of stairs. Sections demand the same technique every single time. Changing direction is difficult on stairs as well as braking, so there are common rules to remember. When riding a forest trail each obstacle is different, often with irregular surface, full of roots, stones or whatever, so it is much more difficult to learn such a trail. The only thing difficult about stairs is that they are new to people riding trails.

Hi guys, just wondering if anyone's got any tips for suspension setup for urban DH,
i figure you increase rebound speed due to lots of stairs and stuff but is it 'faster' to stiffen up compression
any advice would be much appreciated
(I'm on a boxxer r2c2 and BOS stoy)

The following hints are based on my experience only. Tuning suspension is individual so you should try a lot and work over your own. Suspension has to be very progressive. The first part of stroke up to about 40% soft like in forest, then it should gain much progression. High speed compression soft, low speed compression very hard. Rebound almost the same. High speed damping tuned soft for quick rebound, low speed rebound much harder. Generally rebound affects compression so they should go together, but it is safe to increase rebound more than compression on hard surfaces like concrete and stairs. It may also help to decrease sag SLIGHTLY by hardening the preload. Front softer than the rear. All this suspension tuning must go together with tire pressure which should be increased by o.5bar at least. Before riding stairs I also recommend to recheck all bolts as they like to get loose. Thread glue is a good idea. The faster you go downstairs the smoother it gets. Good suspension setup transforms stairs into chain sound only. Changing direction on stairs is very hard since tires slide. Traction is x0.5 the usual. Breaking is even more difficult. Stopping is almost impossible.

Thanks for that, so stiffen and speed up up the low speed stuff a little more than usual, and get the high speed stiff and slower rebound, got the thing about tyres, i normally run 25 psi in mud fest and 30 when its clammy, so I've brought that right up to 40 for urban stuff. And get the rear shock pretty stiff/ progressive (fast rebound), yeah cornering is pretty hard, theres this half pyramid shaped set of stairs (about 15m long and 5m down so not that steep) near me and changing direction to go across them is pretty though, I'm sure ill get the hang of it thanks
If i got anything wrong please correct me!

Hints I wronte are only a general direction. It all depends on your weight, technique, preference, conditions etc, so nobody will tell you it's e.g five clicks clockwise. o.5 bar is also just a hint. Cedric Gracia doubles the pressure. It may be just enough to rise it by o.3, so you should feel it and work it out for your riding. If you experiment try the way of checking one extreme setup and then the other. Then close up the extremes untill you achieve some optimum. It may occur that the next day you will change the optimum slightly. Write your settings down for your information only. Suspension setup is individual and really difficult stuff. There may be riders who will advice you setiing it differently and it could also be right. There are too many variables to give any remedy. This is why there are forks with external setup available. Crashing on stairs is extremely dangerous so please wear all the safety gear. There is a probability of going over bar and landing on back so turtle back can be helpful.

bad idea, doorways are soo narrow, i have to turn my bars sideways just to bring the bike in the house... but if they have a balcony on each side... make a ramp to jump in >> then drop out ! now that would be sick

or a roof top section like the james bond movie with motorbikes

My God, those intermittent stair cases are like rhythm sections in motocross... either gap the distance between 'em or hit the flat section in between them and bail.
