Today's Polygon Air DH Practice started out sunny and the track ripping. With practice going until about 1pm and seeding runs starting up at 2pm, the day seemed to be going well until all hell broke loose with the weather bringing heaps of rain and thunder. Crankworx officials postponed the race and Whip Off contest until the afternoon hoping the weather would clear. As the day went on, the weather got worse. Official word statement form Crankworx is that DH practice will be at 8:30am, racing will start at 11am, slopestyle and dual slalom training from 9-1, and Whip Off Contest is still to be determined.

The morning was a beamer. It was all sun smiles and ripping up the Les Deux Alpes lawn. Rachel Atherton waits on a red flag underneath the avalanche barriers.

Atherton. Surely too tired of winning to win tomorrow.

Unknown from the lift. The ride up gives you a clear view of the course. In under a minute it s a real crabshoot who will come by while you re on the way up.

Danny boy warming up for the day. The steep technical track could do him well come race day tomorrow. With Gee on fire it s anyone s call on who can take it.

computertaylor why exactly do you think Gee banger won't take it?

Turqoise - Smith is quick no doubt but he ain't equal don't kid yourself - there are others there who stand just as good a chance as him, Danny, Beer etc

I always wondered what Hill was doing while the others were racing this kind of races...?

I havent seen any of the course really but I dont think this can compare to the true AIR DH that is A-Line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A mon avis, there is only one true Crankworx and it takes place in a beautiful little place called Whistler. The others are entertaining and bring in a wider international audience to the sport but nothing will ever amount to the week long party in the village. If you havent been, I would suggest making the pilgrimage.

I understand why they should cancel slopestyle events because of rain as they need to be dry in order to do the jumps....but downhill come one part of the fun of riding is in the wet, screw the weather just go out there and all compete in the rain anyway.
  • 24 1
I would imagine it was cancelled due to the lifts being shut rather than them not wanting to hold the race in the rain.
  • 2 1
Both man, the course is so gnarly. That much rain would have made it so deadly.
  • 3 0
it was canceled because they didn't put chicken wire on any of the wooden obstacles and and wasn't safe to ride in the wet

They mentioned that were a thunderstorm in Saturday! I don´t know about you, but it wouldn´t be me to get electrocuted during the descent!
  • 2 1
Meh the point is, far too many events are cancelled due to weather, I think they should slacken off the rules to determine "too wet to ride" a bit.
  • 1 0
try to use your common sense guys - regarding the weather in the alps, when it turns it really turns, the lightening you get stops the lifts - so the events get cancelled.
