Crankworx Whistler: Our Gopro Diary

Just last Tuesday, myself and Ali Chapple got the chance to do something that most film makers can only dream of, show a video in Crankworx! We were elated to be a part of something like this, and it was made even better when around 2000 people came to watch the final live. Even though we didn't make it into the top 3, we had a great time filming the video and have got some great feedback already, so it is about time we shared the video with Pinkbike too.

From the start of the project, we didn't want to film the whole movie in the Bike Park, while I'm sure you'll all agree that WBP is one of the raddest places on this planet, the surrounding mountains have so much good riding to offer. This meant organising shuttles, trying to make sure everyone had the same days off work, but it resulted in awesome opportunities to shoot stuff that hasn't been filmed 100 times before. Whilst Aline looks sick shoot in super slow mo, that isn't what we were going for.

Just to quickly recap, if you haven't seen it already, this was the teaser that got us into the top 10 and was voted by Pinkbike into the finals:

As I said, we had great fun filming it, filming in beautiful BC with buddies is about as good as it gets, so here are a few photos of what happened along the way.

Dusty's is pretty much the best post ride cure in Whistler


Tracks in the film such as Grin and Holler in Squamish are only there for us to ride because of hardworking trailbuilders, without them we wouldn't be here and we couldn't have filmed. If you ever feel like donating man hours or a hand, or entering races to fund more trails keep in mind people like SORCA and WORCA!


And finally, a big shout out to Ali Chapple, one of the main riders in the film and my editor! He spent a lot of time sat in front of a computer screen so that I didn't have to, unfortunately last week he got too rad for Whistler Mountain Bike Park to handle and grazed his elbow (by grazed I mean severe lacerations that exposed his bone and had to have 50 stitches in just his left arm!). He is currently drugged off his tits to try and reduce the infection so send him some healing vibes so that he gets back on the bike soon for our next video!




And that's not to mention the other riders: Patrick Meen, Steve Jamison, Andy Linley, Stephen Leonard, Wallace Barr and Andrew Hamilton all did their fair share of pushing back up to reshoot sections for me and put a lot of heart into the video. Cheers guys, you're all awesome.
