Crankworx may not be Interbike, but with an event of this proportion there is a guarantee that you'll find new parts, prototype parts, retro bits, and cool people in the pits and on the trails.
Here is a look at some of the bits that caught my eye last week and some of the folks that are riding them:
Steve Smith:
Straight out of the gate, I have to say WAY TO GO STEVE SMITH! Steve is the new face of DH racing in Canada and the folks at Red Bull are backing him up now too! At Sunday's Canadian Open DH race, Steve took 4th place behind Barel, Minaar and Hill-all past World Cup Champions. I bet 4th Place never felt so good!
Marzocchi:
The 2008 forks from Marzocchi look really good from an aesthetics point and I hear that they ride amazing too. Can't wait to get my grubby paws on one!
www.marzocchiusa.comCorsair:
Corsair was on hand showing off their Konig frameset. This US based company shows a lot of potential with new designs.
www.corsairbikes.comTransition:
Kevin and Kyle from Transition were on hand with a few of their proto-type
ladies freeride bikes called the Siren. The new bike is marketed at the gals in our sport who like to get rad on their machines.
www.transitionbikes.comSRAM:
Through out the week I spent in Whistler for Crankworx, I managed to do some "lurking" in and around the SRAM trailer. I was amazed at the things you find if you look really hard.
Have a look at the fixing bolts on the caliper and the mounting bolts, yep they are not stock.
Notice that the paint isn't sticking to the levers, its not because the rider brakes a lot. It is due to the fact that paint doesn't favour magnesium in which these blades seem to be made of.
It is not a SRAM product, but HB has ran these since their introduction forever ago
If I told you , I would have to kill you was the response to my inquiries here. It appears to be a whole new air sprung XC fork that offers about 80mm of travel. But damn it does look good up close, just have to wait and see what comes of it.
We took an even closer look at the RockShox Vivid rear shock, so check back in a few days for more info on it.
www.sram.comSome more folks that always have a good time:
Despite being kinda homeless, Darcy always had a smile for the camera and a stoke to ride her bike
Team Alberta member Geoff Briggs and Team USA member G-Rad taking a break from laps to shoot the poop. I think G-Rad has to be an honorary Albertan by now.
The Irish keep popping up where ever I am riding, I guess they know what is good too. Nice to see the whole crew on fancy new bikes too.
Dobermann:
Alain Lavoie and Mathieu Albert made the trek out from Quebec to this year's Crankworx festival to show their products off. They have a new rigid fork coming out for all you street riders out there. You could also watch them weld up a frame over the course of a few days as they had a jig on hand too.

FUNNs line up keeps growing and it seems a hydraulic disk brake is in the works too.
Mike Redding's custom D2 tribute to the Sex Pistols Syd Vicious
Mike Redding's Custom D2
If this bike was a girl, her curves would be illegal, damn this bike is sexy
Devinci:
The big change to Devinci's gravity influenced line up of bikes has got to be the Wilson. Basically they had 4 different bikes last year that made up the line up of big hit machines, but for 2008 it's all about the Wilson. There are 4 different Wilsons, each with a different spec. But look for more info on the 2008 Wilson 3 in late August as we are in the testing process and you'll all hear about it soon enough.
