Here is the calendar to date:

2012 DH 1 Calendar
2012 DH 1 Calendar

What will the venues be, post your guesses below.

The Freecaster DH1 Series
For those of you that haven't really been paying attention so far the Freecaster DH1 Series will consist of 6 Pro races that will run in sync with the UCI World Cup dates, so that riders can compete in both. The races will be filmed in HD and broadcast live on Freecaster.tv with the usual commentary by Rob Warner. This is awesome news for those of you that were worried about not getting your Sunday morning Warner fix. The races will feature men's and women's categories and will be open to a minimum of 150 riders. Saturday's will see a qualifying round with a Small Final of 30 riders and a Pro Final of 30 riders as well. The top 20 Pros will be protected, leaving 10 spaces for other riders to move into the Pro Final. The series overall will be based on the best 5 out 6 results, allowing riders to miss one of the events with taking a loss in the points.

So far support for the series has been good, with the CG Brigade, Santa Cruz Syndicate, Kovarik Racing, and Scott11 all committing to the series already. More teams are sure to commit once the schedule becomes a little more solid.

bigquotesThere has been room for more racing and it's nice to see someone stepping in and getting involved. I'm really excited to get the 2012 season underway! - Greg Minnaar

DH1 on a Wed & Thurs, say what? in July
  • 2 0
Must be a mistake. That race is after Windham uci race, I hope it is a east coast US race, and not in Europe. They are having the finals in Canada, so you would think there would be a race in the states too.

Am I the only one here that sees this information as nothing more than speculative? Seriously. No confirmed venue = no confirmed date. All they've done is highlight the possible dates that they "could" run these races, so as not to interfere with the UCI series. This article isn't really providing info, so much simply trying to generate hype.
  • 1 0
No, they have all the venues secured, they are just releasing the locations to the public in a more promotional based way to hype themselves up as much as they can for a longer period of time.
  • 1 0
You could be right. It's all about the hype, right? Hype hype.... HYPE!
  • 1 0
That is ridiculous to have that race in march and wait almost three months for another world cup! yes it's the southern hemisphere and it's there summer, push for forward 6 or 8 weeks into there fall! they race into september in europe where they inevitably get soaked ! look at the world champinships, Let these guys race a uninterupted season.

freecaster Dh1 ,you need too take the wheel over, don't let uci run your future, let the riders chose who ,make it history, take a chance, its life do or keep watch UCI,run MT.down too laim status .DON't be SCARD, FDH1,make a new club thats on PAR.or better.i know i'm just a noname rider, i've seen the rise and fall of the wheel,NBA,NBL,ABA,NORBA,BIG BEAR,skate boards, but they have cum back with new wheel, some haven't with out risk there is no gain.take a vote on this page to see what the riders want, before you get your wheel bent.show your product.ask R.W. or N.P.

they should use some different venues, we all know the usual places, but somemore variety i.e venturing away from europe a bit more would be awesome, finishing up at crankworx will be a nuts, can't wait for 2012 dh season
  • 3 0
They'll probably use Schladming for one of the races
  • 1 0
It was a bit dissapointed to not see the venues for DHI but other than that the 2012 season is going to be off the charts!!!!!!
  • 1 0
What I'm not sure about is, are some teams going to be racing both UCI and DH1 series, and some just exclusively one or the other? What are the consequences of either?
  • 1 0
In another one of the articles, the one before this, free caster said that they'll be trying to schedule their races on days where the UCI aren't having theirs so that the racers can do both. My guess is that there won't be any consequences! just more money to win!
  • 2 0
Last DH1 race scheduled for 18-19 August.....Crankworx whistler scheduled for Aug 12-19th....coincidence, I think not!!!! Wink
  • 1 0
1000% sure its not !!!! Wink
  • 1 0
Can anyone tell me whats the point of doing a race in march? and then having a 3 months break?..
  • 1 0
Its a race in South Africa, in the southern hemisphere, therefore different seasons, our summer = there winter.
  • 2 0
Oh your right, but a 3 months gap is still pretty stupid in my opinion.
  • 2 0
It does suck, but its not fair to places in the southern hemisphere that put lots of work into a DH course and not be able to be part of the series because there seasons are different. Its only fair, but unfortunate for the athletes.
  • 4 0
They should have a race in Aus and New Zealand in that 3 month gap
  • 2 0
So 2 of the DH1 races clash with the IXS rounds. Thats not so good.
  • 1 0
probably both me north american events...
  • 1 0
I guess round in july will be the Giant Downhill in Les 2 Alpes, France, during the K'Mikaz games week.
  • 3 0

Lets keep our fingers crossed that the DH1 date of August 19th is reserved for Crankworx in Whisler BC
  • 3 0
Pretty sure it will be, there was something in an interview saying it would finish at Crankworx. Will make it an even sickerer event!
  • 1 0
The interview which i read( In Dirt mag?) said that it would finish at Crankworx Colorado? would be much better to see it at the real thing!
  • 2 0

 Western Open ~ Golden BC
  • 1 0
Why? $$$$ ? Don't sell out. While the notion of a major international race at KHMR is cool, if the Western Open turned into an international race attended by pros, I think you would see local (ie. Alberta and BC) participation drop significantly. And that would be lame, especially since, for Albertans, we've already got so few races to choose from.
  • 1 0
 2 different events!

What local racer wouldn't want to see how they stack up against the world's best on the same course?
  • 1 0
There are a lot of racers who would like to see how they stack up, particularly those racing elite categories. The rest of us already know what the outcome would be. Besides, from what I can tell at least, the Western was operating at or near capacity, with somewhere in the range of 200 racers. I'm sure Stephen could confirm. So, if the race were to fill up with international pros, then there might not be room for local racers either (just speculating here).
  • 1 0
I don't see a way the 2 events could be held together.
  • 1 0
Western Open Sat and Sunday as normal. Broadcasted live top 30 racers Monday afternoon. Hypothetically
  • 1 0
Ya, I was thinking about that option as well. But hell, if we're going to think big, then let's make it a 4 day event, so we can throw in top-to-bottom race as well. Northern Lights - Chute to View - Time Travel - Upper Kranky Pants - Lower Kranky Pants - Buffalo Jump - Dust Buster into the village. If I had to guess, for an elite racer, that would be somewhere in the 12 minute range. How cool would that be?
