Rando wasn't doing too badly for a guy on a long travel bike (Reign X 6.7"). He's racing every event on the same bike, including the XC race.

suspension transfers energy, it doesn't take "all of your pumping energy". it's still there, you can still use it to pump if you have the timing down.

Suspension does transfer energy, but some of that energy is transformed into heat energy. That is energy not used to propel you forward.

Chris Kovarik was practicing on a full-suspension rig (though short travel) at the 2009 World Pump Track Championships, but when the racing started he grabbed a destickered hardtail.

You can go fast on a pumptrack with a fully (Rando is on a Reign X in the vid), but you won't go as fast as on a hardtail.
