The Alliance

Vancouver’s North Shore and Whistler-both these locations are known around the world for many things, but in the summer season they are both commonly refer to as the ‘hot spots’ or ‘epicenter’ or ‘birthplaces’ of mountain biking.

The North Shore has produced some of the best technical riders in the world and created some of the best maintained bike specific trails known to man. Whistler Bike Park can boast about being the first ski area to offer lift assisted mountain biking in such a progressive format. They also hold the honor of creating some of the most famous bike trails. All of these trails are engineered to challenge and progress the rider’s confidence and ability. As well as being the birthplaces for Canada and epicenter of freeriding, these areas have produced 3 small mountain bike companies, West Coast Freeride Guides (WCFG), Bear Back Biking (BBB) and Endless Biking (EB). Much like the airline business alliances around the world, mountain biking is now seeing an increase in companies all trying to take their share of this rapidly growing market. With having more bike specific tour operations coming into the market we feel that we need to offer potential customers the best pricing, experience. By combining the best aspects of all 3 companies we feel that we are forging the way that all other operators will try to follow.

The 3 companies are joining forces and have developed the very first mountain bike alliance in BC, possibly the world. It’s called BC Mountain Bike Alliance. Because all 3 of these companies specialize in different fields of the industry, this makes for a perfect fit. West Coast Freeride Guides expertise are tours by air (helicopter and floatplane biking) and multi-day road trips in southern BC. Bear Back Biking focuses their efforts on XC guiding and luxury style European chalet accommodations for riders in Whistler. Endless Biking provides industry leading instructional lessons and clinics in North Vancouver, Whistler and throughout BC.

Because of our varying specialties we have decided to form BC Mountain Bike Alliance. The plan is to create a package that will include mountain bike instructional camp, accommodations in Whistler and guided tours. With this newly formed alliance we are hoping to offer our guests the best experience and value that is offered. With the exponentially growing mountain bike tourism industry we are now able to focus directly on what we know best.

Mountain bike tourism is growing throughout North America, Europe and other parts of the world. Mountain bike trails in the Sea to Sky region generated $10.3 million in visitor spending last summer and there is room for further development, according to a study conducted by the Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association (MBTA) in partnership with the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) that figure jumps to $38 million when the Whistler Bike Park and Crankworx Mountain Bike Festival are included in the analysis.

There are over 10 million mountain bikers in the US alone and participation in mountain biking has grown by 78% over the last ten years. BC's product is already recognized worldwide and Whistler was named North America's lift-accessed biking leader. Many of the resources are already in place, however, coordination is needed so that the product delivered is consistent, the value acknowledged and the message clear.

The Alliance’s plan is simple…offer guests the best experience possible in a safe and fun environment.

Great plan you guys! Securing BC's future as the leader in mountain bike tourism through consistant, proffesional service. We'll now have less risk of random bros attempting to run their own 'tour companies' and scaring people away. The stronger the mountain bike tourism industry becomes the more willing our governments will be support local trail networks and mountain bike related projects. As local BC riders, we will all gain.
