Aug 26, 2013
by Tyler Maine

The new 2014 Cooker Maxi is a fat bike. It's great on snow, sand and just in the good old dirt. If floats on 4 inch wide low pressure balloon tyres, that roll in a newly designed version of our tough Cooker frame. The Cooker Maxi forms part of the new 2014 Charge Bikes range and this week (Thursday 29th August) sees the launch of our all-new 2014 website and range of products. As an example the Cooker Maxi complete bike retails for $1599 USD in the US and £1200 in the UK and will be available from October 2014 worldwide, check out the new website later this week for more info! A size small is featured in this video.

Nay, there was a vid of guys riding for Sandman who did 3 races in Italy, one XC, one Enduro and one DH. They guy on DH comp was tossing that sht around, jumping and manualing like it was a BMX. I'm really keen on trying one.

I was anti- fat bike until I tried one 2 weeks ago, they are really good and fun for mellow trails, sand or snow. I do not like the fact that this bikes came out 10 years ago and now all the sudden they are cool!!!!! But yeah you should try one they are Rad!!!

 you think to much

I made that board in the 80's

:-)
  • 3 1
I spent more time looking at that vintage board thinking how fun it would be! (the bike looks fun too)
  • 2 2
That wind had t o be killin him with th board on the sude
  • 1 0
You don't want to surf when it's that windy anyway, it's a good check for that. I have done that before many times on 24 mile round trips on my bike to the coast or surf.

 still cooler than a 29er
  • 9 0
 hey c'mon that's not....... yeah it's true!
  • 1 0
They make 29ers with 3" tyres and market it as: this is perfect if you think that balloon wheels are one step too far...
  • 2 2
Okay, just hop right on that 29er hate wagon, halld15. You're cool.
  • 12 2
I have to say, that looks fun. I don't know if i'd buy one, but I sure would like to give it a try.

 That surfboard was getting "rag-dolled"

Can someone please explain why all the fat bikes cost so much considering there is no suspension? Most of the fat bikes I've seen start at $1500, I'd consider getting one for winter riding if the cost was around $800.
  • 4 1
Any high quality bike is north of $1000. An $800 bike is not as nice as the one pictured here, factor in low production numbers and FAT specific parts..... and there you go. Ill tell you though- Im ready to pull trig on of these.

Most frame set's are around $400 to $600, but rims, tires and hubs are not cheap, their are only one or two manufactures making them. But you can always get the Walmart Fat Bike Wink

Didn't someone race the Mongoose one at Sea Otter this year?
  • 1 0
ElVenezuelan, thanks for the link! So if Mongoose can sell a fatbike for as low as $208, surely some other manufacturer can quadruple the price and make one that won't fall apart in a couple of years. Specialized is coming out with a fat bike for 2014, considering they make an decent looking 29er that retails for $880, maybe they can sell a more affordable bike.

I think 650b is where industry should have never went to, but those fat bikes look like a really cool thing. At least they are a truly different option, not a kind of different if you try to notice the difference. Take my money!

hold on with your money and wait for full sus fat bike
difference is .... day and night

Surfing at sundown is scary..Seen lots of sharks when we were in florida staying for awhile.Morning and eves seems is when you see them most.Fat bike my ass, bmx with oversized tires.Looks like a version of a donk bike..Buy a Haro and stick some oversized tires on that puppy, and call it fat.Be half the price of that fugly thing.

Wow, it must feel like having suspension on the front AND rear of your bike (.....only without any rebound control or travel or platform/compression control.. )

And all that extra weight (rim and tyre) just where you really need it, like two giant flywheels you have to spin up and slow down - woohoo the fun.

Am I the only person that just thinks this is a triumph of marketing over substance?
