Insane 360 Helmet Cam - Filip Polc @ Red Bull Valparaiso Cerro Abajo

Here's a picture from Filip's Facebook showing how the setup looks like. Crazy to think he'll run 2 cameras at once during practice through some tight sections of the course.

Nice. Blake Samson and I created something last year and he flipped with it wearing a piss-pot! www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_OeBjCQAvw

Ha, hella chopper look. My thing is that it is cool to get the angle at the same time but it's only good for the wide open space. My bars barely fit in places where I ride so that thing would take off my noggin. Super cool video with the spinning shots though.

It all finally makes sense now.

I was watching the official video when I started to think about how they managed to take these shots. I came up with an idea that there's one camera going round His helmet on a free swingarm. Now I can see that there are two of them, so it solved the problem of pendulum swing with no control, but I still do not understand how He ran through these narrow sections like the tiny bridge and narrow stairs with the railing, without crushing any camera. I even think that He'd crush Himself if any of the cameras touched a fence, building or crowds' hands. Come on, it is not a shoulder, not a knee but the Head, where the sence of balance is hidden etc.

All the 360 Pole cam stuff was shot in practice. Filip would stop before any crazy tight sections and straighten it out (and lock it down) so it wouldnt be spinning. There were a few close calls though from watching the full clips he sent me.

So next thing I know now. It's contrallable and lockable. Could You provide the full rough clips ? I am sure people would like it like me.

how long is your pole? do you feel the weight of the camera?
any pic of you setup?

@tartosuc - ask me about the length of my pole... badum tss

if you take apart an old harddrive and use the spinning hub from that it works perfectly for a go-pro weight application. close to frictionless and low in weight

Imagine how awkward that would be to ride with.

Anyone else start to feel dizzy after watching that...?

Instant vertigo. Not my favorite viewpoint.

That'd have be distracting as hell when it's whirling around.

Looks like he pushes it with his hand to get it spinning before one of the drops. If he doesn't mind getting it going himself, it probably isn't as bad as we'd think.

After all these comments, I didn't see a single one commenting on how amazingly gorgeous that white Evil is. So I guess I will need to take care of that. That bike is gorgeous.

It is not awkward, because this kind of rotational mount separates/isolates cameras mouvements from head/rider movements, so, you don't, actually feel it. Maybe, except the weight, which is about 1kg. Wink
I am about to test similar mount, which costed about 3-4eur + CNC I used Big Grin
This, RotoR Rec Yourself mount Polc used is about 300eur :O

It isn't awkward until you clip it on one of the 1000 narrow sections on the Valparaiso track. Then it gets real awkward.

my sister would always get sick watching the normal videos on the older styles. Now I this might kill her! ha ha how much does it weigh? Cost? When can I buy? sick video

Was I the only one who expected the trick? Did anyone else jump around the video for about two minutes until you realized it was the type of helmet cam mount?
  • 1 0
That's awesome. As I was watching it I kept scratching my head about how they were getting those shots. Scrolled down and...

Through those tight sections if it was spinning around it could get caught on something.

 thats a bit ridiculous...

Have to agree with you. Cool for about 5 secs to spice up regular footage perhaps, but more than that gets annoying.
