Bro, this dude is the master welder of Foes. He is not a salesman, and that is obvious. But if you want a bike that is well built, straight as an arrow and not have weld failure, then this is the man. He is truly a master at his craft and I know, I have had 2 Flys and my 06 is no different.
If he's not a salesman...then what the hell is he doing trying to promote the bikes at the Interbike show? My comment was directed at the fact that if the idea of the bike show is to sell the concept and describe the new features...then why is the welder who doesn't have sales experience the guy in front of the camera? Good welds make for great bikes, but if the new gear doesn't sound appealing, people aren't gonna start buying cuz the welds are pretty.
Maybe the company doesn't have the budget to send every employee to the show, or maybe their PR guys were busy, or they can't afford to have them at all, and merely rely on their frames to sell themselves. Don't be hard on the guy because he's not eloquent. So few people in the industry actually seem to be. If it bothers you so much, draft a proposal to your company of choice, showing them how you will help them sell more bikes. If you're right in what you say, there are many companies who want to sell more bikes. If you're wrong, and there's not enough justification for a person such as yourself, then the welders and engineers might just have to continue to dumb-down their techno-jargon so the majority of their target consumers can actually understand it. If you understand all the techno-babble, then not only are you the typical consumer, but it follows that they're not going to want to spend money to target the atypical buyer. They want to appeal to lots of people, and moreso distribute information to those who cannot get it for themselves. If you already understand everything, you are a minority, and are able to do the studying yourself, and they don't need to expend effort to sell you a bike.
While you may be able to translate for lay-people, I doubt that this is a full time job at any one bike company, but then again, Specialized does sell a lot of bikes, and getting people to understand how that Demo linkage works might take someone of your caliber!
Well put Erik. I definitely understand what you're saying and you're right. The companies might not have the budgets to send high-profile sales staff members out to the show. My comment was merely targeted at the fact that the InterBike show in Vegas is all about promoting your product to people who are really into the sport and are eager to find out about next year's gear before the season is even over. I was just really dissappointed with the way in which the interview was carried out. There is definitely a need to simplify the technicalities surrounding suspension designs and whatnot, but this guy from Foes was contradicting himself, making stuff up, and pretty much was of no use to us (the consumers) in enlightening us about what's new, what's different, or why we should buy a Foes frame over any other brand.
Who in the world hired that clown to represent Foes?? Good god...getting him to describe the new bikes was like pulling teeth. Where can we apply for his job?
