Anonymous Crime Stoppers Tip Leads to Recovery of Stolen Trailer, $80,000 Trail Construction Machine; Investigation Continuing

"Oregon State Police (OSP), with the help of an anonymous tip reported to the Crime Stoppers program, recovered a trail construction machine and trailer stolen in late November from L.L. "Stub" Stewart State Park in northwest Washington County. The investigation is continuing and a suspect has been identified but not charged.

According to OSP Detective Chris Schinnerer, on Decembeer 30, 2011 OSP troopers went to a Forest Grove-area property following up on an anonymous tip that equipment similar to the stolen "Northwest Trail Alliance" trail construction machine and trailer was at the property. Detectives and troopers contacted the property owner and received his consent to search the area, subsequently finding the trail construcion machine concealed in a heavily forested area. The stolen trailer was also found and recovered.

OSP notified "Northwest Trail Alliance" that their property was recovered. No arrests have been made but Schinnerer said a suspect has been identified.

The trailer and trail construction machine were stolen late November after forced entry was made into an enclosed maintenance compound at L. L. "Stub" Stewart State Park. Inside the trailer were various tools, accessories and a ST240 trail construction machine valued at $80,000.

Crime Stoppers and "Northwest Trail Alliance" were offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.

No other information will be released at this time pending the ongoing investigation. OSP thanks the Crime Stoppers program for helping publicize this case."
