Freeride Park Sierra del Tigre

For a long-time now I have been craving a month-long holiday in Mexico. This year it finally happened and I made sure that some riding was involved in my trip.

While volunteering at BCBR I met Mario. Mario has been going to BC every summer for a couple of years now. He likes to spend time in Whistler, North Vancouver, Crankworx and BCBR.

It was so exciting for me to meet another mexican who is into biking. Mario lives in Guadalajara. While he was in North Van I told him I would go visit and that we should go ride bikes.

Finally I got to Guadalajara and guess what happened? Mario took me to what is going to be the first bike park in Mexico. Mario heard about this project and got involved right away. Mario has been helping improve the trails with his north shore riding experience. I was lucky to spend 2 awesome days at “Freeride Park Sierra del Tigre”.

We arrived to Manzanilla de la paz, a little town located about a 2 hour drive from Guadalajara. When we arrived at about 4pm, we were greeted by Luis. First we took a quick look at the park, put our stuff in the cabin and then Luis suggested we should ride to “El mirador” (the lookout)..

When we reached the top it was already dark. We didn’t stop much since we did not have lights. I think it was officially my first night ride in the forest. We had dinner, showered and went to bed to wake up early in the morning.

We woke up at 6:30 am and picked up the builders to start working. In this project all of the builders are part of the farm. They used to work at the farm and they are now assigned with park duties. None of them are cyclists, only Luis and Mario.

I feel bad admitting this, but while everyone was working, I got the chance to explore the park, ride trails, take pictures and hang out with “Kiara” Mario’s dog.

Mario and Luis were fixing some of the jumps while others were building drops. I was the lucky person to try one of the new drops for the first time right after it was finished! I felt so special LOL.

Jugo y Chilaquiles

We went for lunch at the market and had delicious “Chilaquiles” and fresh Juice. Manzanilla de la paz has a brand new market and there is a bunch of little places where you can get real Mexican Food.

It was about 2 pm and I only had couple more hours in the park – my flight to go back to Hermosillo (my home town) was booked for the next day. I decided to take the Enduro trail, spent few hours riding some other trails and of course got lost and then came back and found out that I was riding the moto trails, instead of the Enduro. It was really fun. In the end I only had time to ride half of the Enduro trail.

Before going to the bus station to go back to Guadalajara, I went back and take a few more shots and then the time was over. My adventure with Mario was through. I am so lucky to have met Mario who was the raddest host while in Guadalajara. Of course, I am also very lucky to have met Luis, who is super passionate about bikes and has a vision for the biking community in Mexico. I wish him all the luck in the world with this project and I hope to come back here in the near future and be able to ride the black trails and do some dirt jumping!
