Spring break is here so we got the crew together and headed up to Kirt Vories' house in Bend, Oregon, to shred some infamous trails in the high desert. We went up looking for a relaxing getaway and came out with a banging edit.
Rider: Nik Dommen. Cameo: Kirt Voreis. Production: Kent Johnson and Dylan Ezekiel. Song: Hanging On (Sound Remedy).
Being a trail builder I am tired of seeing these videos of people blowing up perfectly good berms. Berms are made to be railed not exploded. Do you realize how long it takes to make a sick berm. Now I'm seeing blown up berms everywhere. That I get to fix ! Come on guys. Let stop doing this shit. Respect the trails. Respect the builders !
Dirt can be moved, placed, and shaped how you like. Can everyone quit whining and complaining the whole idea of the video is its destruction and then the trail boss gets mad and makes him fix it! WHY IS THAT SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND.
The point is who is going to fix it ? If you blow it up and fix it great. But if you blow it up and someone else has to fix it. Not cool. I've spent hundreds of ours maintaining and building trail for everybody to enjoy.
It was blown up, for viewer pleasure, then fixed for rider pleasure. Is that good enough for you, would you like me to drive back up to Oregon and water the trail daily till it looks like Whistler? If you have nothing positive to say, dont say anything.
Who is being negative ? The video reinforces my point. My last comment covers my point. Do you spend hundreds of hours building and working on trails ? If you do you should understand where I am coming from. And it's not just me. Many people pour their effort into building features for everyone to enjoy. It's disheartening when you see them damaged for no good reason. I'm not bagging on your video. It's the kids and adults for that matter that see these videos and emulate them.
If you put that much effort into trails surely you'd want people to enjoy them however they like, as long as they aren't kicking them down I just see it as wear and tear, trails don't last forever.
I understand the distaste in the physical detriment to the trail, but we specifically built that turn up for that shot, and then fixed it right after. It was theatrical, staged. Bottom line, I'm tired of people complaining about how we ruined the trail. There was work done beyond the video to restore it, hell go ride it, you'll see its been cleaned.
I totaly agree with you sofarider1. You'll be faster rolling and railing than blasting all the dirt. Yes, it can make good takes for a video but it's useless from a riding point. Usualy, a few guys dig and everybody else enjoy and sometimes destroy. Showing a bit of respect would be great. I also dig a lot and maintain trails. I understand your point norcalproductions, but you must be aware of the signal sent in the videos we see. I see lots of young riders wich are very hard on trails and features and I try to bring a sense of awarness about those issues when I can. I don't blast them, I rather have a smooth approach. Most of the time, they just don't realize the impacts of their riding style. Building helps a lot understanding the efforts invovled... ! : ) Around here in the Province of Quebec, dirt IS hard to move and shape...
Re-freaking-lax ladies! The berm blowing was obviously for video spice. Did you not see the end of the video where he's dragging a rake up the trail? I rode THAT trail last night. IT IS FIXED AND BETTER THAN IT WAS BEFORE THIS VIDEO WAS TAKEN chill out.
shut the fuck up about wrecking trails, i have built my own trail, multiple times, good riders like nick dommen shredding those berms actually diggs the turn into the ground and makes it more fun to ride, so go grab a surf board if u wanna defend your home trails like its a fucking hawaii surf spot, i build my trails and who ever finds them is welcome to ride them, maybe you shouldn't show everyone where your sacred trails are if u don't want good riders riding them, we slay berms thats what we do in california so fuck off
If you were actually from central oregon you'd know that that's basically how are trails look all the time. Nice and dry! Still fun place to ride though..
I raked them top to bottom last night. There has been a lot of traffic out there lately with no trail work. Nic was exploding berms that were already ruined. We even got a little misting out there this morning. Its all good now.
I absolutely loved the VERY succinct point about the rider's responsibility to fix the trails.. . I have yet to see a video of this caliber where they make it a point to both show the fun of riding and set a proper example for all of those 'impressionable kids' (and adults). So thank you, guys, for not only a kickass video, but also a responsible little trail riding PSA at the end of it... Loving the vibe. Nice riding.
I like the ending. I was thinking how unfortunate it is to see all the hard work that trial builders put in and how the trails get worked over in video's as I see this guy blow through berm after berm. I know a lot of work goes into building and designing lines for segments but it can be hard to see some of your favorite trails getting shredded and not knowing if anyone is going back up with some equipment for some maintenance. Nice edit with a solid ending. Well done!
GOSH!, that was some serious rad riding on a sick trail. the dslr?-special-optix worked, i like! ..whazzup with you haters out there, always crying cause of berms being blown away??! I dont wanna see someone goin just straight, railwaylike, through turns. I WANNA SEE EXACTLY THIS: SHRED! btw i didnt know Nik Dommen yet, now i do, dont you
I think those are a little bit too intimidating for my liking. You could always download the video and put your own music to it if its that much of a problem!

Respect the trails.
