Winter. With few events, races, contests, and riding for that matter, mountain biking falls into a brief period of stagnation. With that, I had amassed a hunger to work on a new edit and particularly one with some new athletes. I contacted Jill Kintner and we began planning!

I needed the edit to qualify for a local contest put on by a Northwest based advocacy organization, the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance. The only requirement was to be filmed on legal, Washington state trails. Jill came up with the excellent suggestion of Mt. Galbraith located on the outskirts of Bellingham. At the last minute I made the drive up and met with her and her close friend and fellow rider Katie Holden. We then continued on and at the trails met up with local Galbraith riders Jessica Serdowich and Tyler Earnheart. At the end of the day everyone was stoked and we came up with a great edit for everyone.

Chilling on one of the Galbraith s many access Roads.

 legal, haha

Well this is as good as legal comes Yansma!

Looks like it was mostly shot on SST and Evo, so yeah, it's legal.

Technically it's SST & Golden Spike

Who can tell? Trails names on Galbraith seem to change every couple of years, and with each new batch of riders. Seems that the Ridge is about the only one that has retained its original name in the 22+ years I've been riding up there. Regardless, I do love a good romp down SST and whatever comes after it. Bit harshed on after the dry summer, but a price performer as always. Nice edit.

Showed this to my daughter... now we have the Of Monsters and Men album. I think I'll be able to get her back up on the trail soon as a result of both video and song.

@reverend: Golden Spike is a real trail too haha!

Sounds to me like they were using avid elixrs Razz
  • 3 0
Jill was using XTR's but I believe there were new pads in there which would have done the trick.. But I know what you mean being a former elixir user.. My god those are loud. I have moved on to the new saints.
  • 3 0
Hahaha aint that the truth. Saints... Ooooooooh nice.

I just recently purchased a fully "sainted" 2013 TR450 in that blue and black colorway... Needless to say it has lead to a lot of solid sessions in the bed...

I was actually going to mention something about the brakes. When I'm out riding, squealing brakes can totally ruin a ride, especially if I'm by myself and its a beautiful quiet day. Are squealing brakes a product of the pad, or more just brake design?
  • 3 0
Pads usually. New pads tend to squeal as they break in or if the pads are wet they squeal until they are dry.

Smoking pot on this trail is legal.

Awesome video with a really good song. Anyone else notice that this song sounds eerily similar to Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes's Home?
  • 2 0
 A lil bit!
  • 3 0
I thought it was that song, but I've never heard the intro
  • 2 0
The song is: Of Monsters And Men - Dirty Paws

Walking up the hill at Galbi is like walking your skate board to the skate park. But nice riding down the hill and great edit.
  • 3 0
ABSOLUTELY. That's my main gripe at Galby - the scores of kids in the mallrat uniforms, pushing DH sleds up the doubletrack. *Everything* is rideable there! Come on!
  • 4 1
Shred up and down the hill, come on!
  • 2 0
I ride a bullit and there isn't a trail on galbi I don't ride up or down, I see those kids all the time and think what are they tired from to many video games?

I used to ride up on my Scratch, but after my demo it's honestly not worth it. My demo is a pain to ride up. I've got a six speed set-up and barely have a gear to pedal up. Why I have a demo and ride galbraith? Well I bought my demo knowing I ride mainly in shuttle areas with friends. Honestly, i'd love to have a second all mountain bike, but that isn't going to happen for a while sadly. And quite frankly, I love some of the galby trails even on my demo, sadly it's my only bike. And especially on days when none of my buds want to or can ride, galby is my only option, and not a bad option. I do try and pedal...but doesn't work out well Frown

... my biggest pet peeve is people calling Galbraith something that seems shorter or informal. Both words are two syllables, and while there are more phonemes in the formal name, I'll always prefer it.

As for walking up, true there is little on the hill that one cannot pedal up. These riders were, I assume, sessioning sections of SST and the shots of them pushing, were them getting back up to ride it again. SST is, as locals know, a directional trail. Nobody rides up it. (Ok, I recognize that there might be some who ride up, but that's asking for trouble, and messing with the flow of someone who's already put in the work to get up there.) These riders probably rode to the trailhead as many of us do.

@reverend you have it right... I shot the walking shots as the riders were sessioning.

Great edit and super flow riding! This video has inspired me to ride there! Fortunately I am only an hour away! Bought my map from the WMBC site and can't wait to check it out!

 Thanks KSweet!

Galby is good, so much great stuff in the Ham. Trim and the crew do a nice job on that trail, takes a shit ton of time to build/maintain something like that. Big props to the WMBC and the trail builders in Whatcom County!

Great edit - I don't recall ever seeing a legit video of SST. This was awesome. I saw some stills on Katie's i-gram feed and I'm glad I caught this. Now time to fill the tank and head back to Galby.

Cool edit, fun trails for sure. Here is a "legit" edit, search here for "Trevor Parson: All Style" The first half of the vid is the same trails.

Ahh, the standard UK gripe ! You beat me to it ,lol !

Go figure, the PNW, BC and GBR sit on the Eastern edge of oceans in the Northern Hemisphere whose currents run clockwise and the jet stream brings weather off those chilly waters working down from the arctic. Makes some sense that their climates are somewhat similar.
  • 1 0
 Jill looks really fast!!!
  • 1 0
No doubt - it's cool to see her ripping the fast lines. Having ridden there a lot, it's revealing to me how much quicker she is than the average rider.
