A fresh start is a good thing for us, and you know going into a race season with a company like GT behind us is an incredible boost for me. - Gee Atherton |
The first thing I noticed on testing the Fury was the weight, you know it's much lighter than what I'm used to, much lighter than what I've raced on in the past. That's only a positive thing for racing World Cups and it's a huge advantage for me. The suspension is very linear, it's a lot less progressive than what I've ridden in the past you know, it doesn't ramp up as much, it really allows me to use all the suspension. The suspension is very impressive. - Gee Atherton |
The geometry on the bike is slightly different to what I'm used to and working with Fox and working with the other sponsors to make alterations to the components, we've managed to get the bike completely down to the setup how I run it, how I run it on a fast steep World Cup race track, with the right bottom bracket height, the right head angle. I'm stoked to be able to say I'm running a bike with my perfect geometry now. - Gee Atherton |

Hell, I'd buy one...
Sorry, but only 2 of those photos are what you could call 'digitalyphotoshopinglyHDR-ified'. Stop being such a drama queen.
What I said is that only 2 of the above photos have had obvious editing done to them. Which is at odds with what DirtGash said "the days are long gone of ever seeing a pro photo that will not be digitally altered beyond realistic belief."
With the exception of the first 2 photos, I agree that none of the photos have been over edited. (I also use photoshop to do some adjustments to 99% of my photos.)

Linear: the suspension will not ramp up through the travel, it will stay stay almost the same all the way.
Progressive: the suspension stiffens up through the travel, it's harder to bottom out, but it is less sensitive.

good luck to the Atherton Clan for 2012 from a fellow Brit
But why didnt you do a segment on the whole team? Because that would have been more interesting IMO , to see what rach thinks and how dans getting on with the enduro and what they all think of the new sponcers.
I don't really like the video. There many great shots, but I'm not with the editing.... and it seems to be a great advertising for GT. "Never ridden a bike which is so lightweight like this"
still, I think the change will be good for them.
Progressive: The axle path changes throughout its travel.

I hate Gee Atherton, he makes it look so easy, like anyman can ride like him!
'Perfect geo' - is that what were all striving for? Does it get any better than that? Where would he go next (or anyone else with the perfect geo for that matter)?
Gary.
Gary.
I like them and since I just ordered a couple of mallets, I need shoes that will take the clips, and I dont like XC shoes for that matter!
Can somebody point me towards those shoes??
Also why the hate for a simple white bike? Do all the bikes have to look like a disco ball?
Looks so good
BEACON.......
Impressive.
I can't see why it would be better than the Commencal; apart from the light weight and possible carbon stiffness. The Atherton's Commencals had far longer wheelbase and were slacker than the GTs. Also Gee admits that the suspension is too linear. They also had to fit shorter eye-to-eye shocks, offset bushes, head angle reducer cups and slam the forks. Doesn't seem ideal.
Hopefully they will build custom frames for the Athertons so that they have geo, suspension etc which they like (after all they spent years developing custome Commencal Supremes so they must like the way they ride!)
What I can say is: the GT ID suspension is one of the best suspension designs out there... In the suspension deparment way better than the Status.
I can't believe they left animal either, they have been riding animal ever since they started
