Goat Style Bike Jam - June 2nd, Creston B.C.

May 27, 2007
by Tyler Maine
Throughout the years of mountain biking, the progression has seen the unthinkable, over and over again. Ambassadors of the sport have lead packs of riders all over the world, proving time and time again that limits don’t exist on a mountain bike.

In the summer of 2006, Creston, B.C. played host to its first mountain bike competition. It was an event that was supposed to be low key and for fun. However when the official weekend arrived for the event, low key was the last thing on anyone’s mind. Riders were showing up left and right…stoked to session the park that was built. And when it came time to actually compete…compete they did. Tricks were sick, air was huge; the level of intensity was awesome. And, oh, let’s not forget about how history was made when Scott Alleyn threw a 720 in competition (first ever in mountain biking). With the hype from last year, this year we have Goat Style Bike Jam. The dirt jumps are bigger, there’s wicked features coming from all directions, a live band that’s storming the underground charts, sponsors from every which way, demos by amazingly talented riders, a movie competition (giving a chance to those who want to get their home grown movies seen on the big screen), tents with all sorts of companies and shwag, and so much more. We also have big cash for those who stand tall upon the podiums, and not too far behind, tons of prizes.

Creston, B.C is known for being the home-town of Kokanee brewing. And because Kokanee is in the backyard of Goatstyle Bike Jam, they jumped on board in support of our mountain bike event. So expect to see our slopestyle park covered in the kokanee colours. But Creston, aside from its beer by kokanee, is also a phenomenal mountainous area that provides an amazing backdrop to Goat Style Bike Jam. This event is no longer low key…we’re hoping it to be “the key”. Mountain biking keeps growing and growing. Goat Style Bike Jam is going to provide riders of any kind to show just exactly where the sport is actually going.

Without giving to much away, the slopestyle park will consist of box drops, quarter pipes, bridges with kicks on the end, wall rides, huge dirt jumps, as well as course features for beginners and juniors. For information on how the competition will run, check out the format on the events page of our website (www.goatstylebikejam.com). The age for this event is going to be for 11+ and categories will be set for beginner and advanced riders (along with junior and senior).

Last year, history was made at this event…this year…the sky is truly the limit. Don’t miss it, or you may miss out on a new piece of history in mountain biking.

It was never said that Scott Alleyn was the first ever to do a 720 this year. It was merely stated that he was the first one ever to do a 720 (last year) in competition. Paul Bas. gets props for being the first one ever to do a 720 period. There are a few riders that can now do 720's, which is totally sick.

I grew up in Creston, and nothing like this has ever been here before, so i am so glad it finally came. It would be great if a downhill portion would be added, seeing as Creston is sorounded by mountains and trails.
