WOW! What an amazing first round to the Halo Winter 4X series. Those who think 4X is dead are clearly wrong. The scene is very strong down at Chicksands Bike Park with 114 racers at the first round. We were blessed with some awesome weather for a great days racing. The track was perfectly tacky which opened up those inside lines for some great moves.
In the under 10s rippers category we only had 4 racers but that just meant they battled it out against each other all day long with Callum Greenwood taking the win, Adam Barrass in 2nd and new rider to mountain biking coming from Moto George Madley in 3rd.
Our 10-13's category saw some amazing racing over the day with lots of the Braintree bmxers crossing over to mtbs and Charlie O Grady coming out with the win for the day. Then Shane Davis in 2nd and Tyla Rosser taking 3rd coming all the way from the Welsh valleys for a day of racing in Bedfordshire.
Onto 14-15's and yet again Braintree bmx are up there in number 1 spot with Shane Redgewell winning all day long with Aaron Dalleywater in 2nd and local rider Reece Noden in 3rd.
Senior was our biggest category on the day with nearly 40 riders which is huge for a race that isn't a national round. They even had 1/8 finals! The final was won by Joe wallbridge who rode up in senior as he's 16 pretty soon which proved he was more than suited to race against the older lads. Bringing in 2nd was Slam 69 rider James Whitby and another Braintree bmx rider Oli Cutmore in 3rd.
Masters category was another huge one for the day with a total of 26 riders. Keith Wilson also gave his podium up in masters and tried his hand in elite for the day leaving it open for Braintree main man Jools Allen to take the win, Dave Godfrey who has just retired from bmx to race more 4X in 2nd and Leisure Lakes's Matt Clarke in 3rd.
In the Women’s we had another cracking turnout. The number of ladies racing 4X is definitely on the up with Clare Curtis doing her bit and trying to get as many women racing as possible. Suzanne Lacey came out of 4X retirement after racing Dh this season and made her presence known stepping straight up to that number 1 spot on the podium with Michelle Eaton in 2nd and Mabel Mundy in 3rd.
Last, but not least was Elite. With riders stepping up to Elite to make it 10 it was going to be a good day. With Oggy coming back to race and Leon Rosser making the trip from Wales the racing was going to be fierce. Jack Hudson Chicksands local and 44Racing rider was pinned all day winning all his motos just missed out on the final to Ol'man Oggy proving he's still got the speed to shown the youth how to race. Identiti's Jordan Lunn rode fast all day to take 3rd behind Jack.
I'd just like to say thank you to Halo rims for sponsoring our series with some amazing prizes along with DMR Bikes as well as Julie from Braintree BMX for running the software and all the course marshalls. Also Mop Head with his excellent commentary as per usual! Without you lot the day wouldn't have been what people are calling as the "most organized race I've been too
