Northfield, NH - Highland Mountain Bike Park is thrilled to announce the addition of a new event- the Highland Over Mountain Enduro Race presented by Cannondale to be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011. This event will showcase Highland’s newest trail additions as well as bringing some of the best over all riders in the industry to compete for cash and prizes.

bigquotesSuper D racing is one of the fastest growing disciplines and most popular racing events around the world. For Cannondale, mountain biking is all about the perfect ride and this event will provide an exciting race at one of the best venues in the U.S - Bob Burbank, General Manager Cannondale.

The event will begin with a timed downhill seeding run. Then racers will be placed in groups for a wave start based on their seeding times. The real race starts close to the summit with a short sprint climb before heading down the News ODB trail to lower Threshold through the base area and out our 3 mile rolling single track loop. Toward the end of the loop racers will hop on Easy Rider and charge to the summit for a finish down Happy Hour.

bigquotesWe're looking to showcase the best all mountain riders, if you've got both the legs for XC and DH skills this is the event for you. - Dave Smutok, Highland's VP of Business Development and Pro Rider

Yeah, looks like a killer event. With that huge of a purse there should be some top notch competition. It's a unique race format, sort of similar to mega-avalanche with the DH qualifying, but the finals seem way more XC'ish if they are going all the way back up to the summit after the first downhill part. I guess that's what an "overmountain" race is.

I'd put my money on someone like Adam Craig, but who knows with a trail named ODB. Maybe Weir will have the course dialed and win the first overmountain race on his Cannondale overmountain bike, ha.

Anybody know if they have rescheduled the last GES race? I remember hearing that the tentative w/e would be October 15th/16th. Also, this sounds pretty sick.

Yeah I think it's still planned for that weekend.

I ride at highland a lot. It is great. But this sounds like you have to have the right "all mountain" rig to do this. If the DH seeding is on the DH race track they have- you woud kill your XC bike on that and ODB/lower Threshold. And your dh bike would kill YOU trying to climb up Easy Rider.

My (dumb) question is: can you switch bikes befor the climb to the top at the end!?!?!?

same bike for everything. My guess is that an all mountain rig will kill it on this course, something around 5" of travel.

Too short notice! If this was announced a couple weeks earlier I could have done it. That prize purse justifies a plane ticket.

How does the amateur class start work? If you register early, do you essentially get a head start on everyone who registed behind you?
  • 2 0
can't wait. this will be a good time.
  • 2 1
 you wont enter.
  • 3 0
I wish I was still in NH to enter... something to look forward to next year! I'm not shocked at all that Highland is adding this because they've always killed it and kept up with the illest shit.

Are you going to enter the brakeless 29er or the chainless reign?
  • 2 0
Highland is definitely the bee's knees.
  • 2 0
this one i will enter. pretty sure the skyla will be mine for the event. booya. and if that is not the case it will be the brakeless 29er. brakes only slow you down.

Great answer bobby. If props mattered and I could give you multiple, I assure you I would do so.

What is the estimated mileage on this route? I've never been to Highland but maybe now is the time to start going? Smile

Would kill to run this race. Very short notice though. I need to plan this stuff well in advance with the boss.

Anyone object to me taking my rigid 29er on this race? Smile
