Interbike Breaker Breaker 09 - It's a wrap!

by Karl Burkat
Race Face Components, and Rocky Mountain Bicycles proudly presented the world premiere of rising star filmmaker Aaron Larocque’s What’s Next?, at the first ever live broadcast film premiere and VIP party: Breaker Breaker 09.

Rocky Mountain’s GM Charles Russell: "I really loved the free flowing style of the movie. The epic cinematography, unreal lighting and of course the riding just blew everyone away. For Aaron to pull this together was indeed a feat, and I think the crowd who were treated to the premiere certainly appreciated it."

42,000 viewers tuned in during the 4 hour live broadcast to witness an abundance of industry and riders tear it up sin city style. Tippie and Wade treated viewers to exclusive interviews with a variety of attendees, including the man of the hour, Aaron LaRocque: "All in all it was an unreal event. It was awesome to hang out in a mansion in Vegas, hanging out with the riders I grew up idolizing."

LaRock’s Top Ten - a selection of Aaron’s personal top 10 Pinkbike video web edits from 2009, were also announced. Pinkbike members were able to log on live and vote for their favourites. Here are Aaron’s official picks:

1. Artbarn
Good music, good riding, good camera work, good video.

2. Honcho
Some of the best cinematography around - no gimmicks, just straight up skills with a camera.

3. VincentAllard
A rad edit of a rad kid. Unreal riding, really well shot, really well edited. Not often you see good footage from an indoor park.

4. KarlHeldt
Always the raddest music and such cool fast-paced edits. If I could put more than one of his edits on this list I would.

5. Kane-Chenoweth
Gets me pumped. period.

6. infinitetrails
Original riding, unique style both on the bike and behind the camera.

7. andrenutini
I’ve known Andre for a long time and he’s always been pumping out awesome edits. This to me is his best work and I’m constantly impressed with him.

8. lucent
Race videos are often really repetitive, hard to appreciate how fast they’re really going etc. but this edit was awesome and got me pumped.

9. FaultLineMediaGroup
Super lush, banger light, all around a really awesome video.

10. ching-ching-bro
Best contest footage ever?

6487 votes were cast throughout the night and the results are in:

All ten of LaRock’s picks will receive custom laser engraved Straitline pedals; a 2010 Race Face Respond stem as well as a Pinkbike T. Artbarn, Andrenutini and Kane-Chenoweth pulled the top three spots out of the votes. Artbarn walks away with the Banshee Amp frameset, and all 3 winners will receive custom engraved Atlas FR cranks in their choice of colour. 5 lucky voters will take home one of the following: a Rocky Mountain Flow DJ frameset, a set of Race Face Rally FR leg armour, one of 2 pairs of Straitline custom lasered pedals and a Race Face Atlas FR bar.

The winning voters were:

The first ever live broadcast from a VIP party went off in style. The swanky mansion held up to the abuse, the DJ rocked the house and the crowd went crazy when the movie hit the screen.

Radek Burkat, Pinkbike founder: “Pinkbike’s mission is to promote videographers, photographers, industry and riders. The Breaker Breaker 09 VIP party really gave us a chance to innovate and push the media boundaries. We were able to offer live, real time streaming of the new film What’s Next, as well as showcase players in the industry on the casting couch to viewers live across the world. Working with Race Face, seasoned ambassadors of adventure, was integral to the success of the broadcast. You can look forward to more amazing collaborations in the near future!”
