man it was epic, pinkbike friends. came cole and and steve peat crashed in their semifinal run at the same time and they were both scrambling to get back on the bike it was awesome. Mitch and all the other specialized guys were on the new sx enduro. mitch was killin it but in his last run he started throwing up and was getting really dizzy so he dropped out. I think he is ok cuz i saw him at the restaurant i was at and he was chowin down!!!
No one thought Steve Peat was gonna do so well, the whole crowd was so PUMPED!!!!
i was at the bottom and you could tell that most everyone was holding their breath, rooting for peaty. even afterwards, the press was all over him instead of graves eventhough he came second.
Blah blah, blah, Graves something, something, first, something. Can we focus on the most important fact here... PEATY GOT SECOND!!!!! Now that's awesome!
You know you're adored by the community when more people talke about you taking second vs the guy who beat you. Congrats Peaty! Will he ever slow down? (Hope not!!)
Nice win for Graves but kind of expected that, Steve Peat 2nd is the shocker of the weekend so far. Nice win for jill and norco. Was Jared on his hardtail? 26" power inya face.
There is far to much talk about what wheel sizes is better, admittedly its all very interesting as to if there is advantages to each size and what these are and where they are usefull and im as much of a new tech geek as anyone but at the end of the day can we not just accept it's the rider that matters, for most of us if we turned up on the most trick bike with Innovative new features peaty would still kick our ass on a rigid bike from toys r us.
I can see why the obsession with every tiny advantage to be gained in racing (and most of these advantages are tiny, slipping a pedal on one corner could loose the whole advantage the bike gave you) but can those of us who arnt racing at the very elite level just RIDE and stop blaming equipment.
Peaty is a beast, I think bigger wheels just suit his size, he's raw power and skill with experience, regardless of what people say, physics works for and against wheel sizes so it moot to argue one is better, just ride what you like, 26" wheels generate speed better pump, bigger wheels carry speed better if you plow through stuff, good riders know how to generate speed regardless!
Steve, if you're a Pinkbike reader!!!! YOU ARE THE MAN....!!!! It really shows how much of a legend you are, when no one is talking about the man in first place (sorry kid, but no one "really" beats Peaty...)
i could only imagine the pandemonium that ensued at the sea otter slalom course. it's already like no other race in mtn biking. the winner of the sea otter dual slalom carries with them a romantic notion that somewhere in the world, slalom is still a relevant and significant racing discipline. i'm so bummed i did not attend this year, as the dual slalom event alone is worth the trip. add to that the classic finals match up of Peat vs. Graves and it's just another one for the story books. I would have been equally happy if either of them won. old school.
Peat was slower off the gate in many of his runs, and then powered through down the course. Not necessarily a wheel size thing though. The Sea Otter start gate is janky. So much fun! Cheers!
No, it makes 650b as far down the big wheel spectrum you go on a tight course where acceleration and speed in the turns matter more than speed on the straights.

Gotta give it up for the old man though...I don't think anybody saw that coming.
