Every fall and spring season, the DMBA works on maintaining trails and building new sustainable trails within the York-Durham area outside of Toronto, Ontario.

On Saturday October 19th, the months of planning came to an end when 85 eager DMBA volunteers converged on the East side of Durham Forest in Uxbridge, Ontario, to add another awesome section of trail. Once again the club has raised the bar with regards to trail building in South/Central Ontario. This new trail, “Knotty but Nice,” boasts a total of over 200 feet of hemlock boardwalk, rock armouring and flowing bench cut.

Thank you to all the DMBA volunteers who gave their time for our trail building event and as always, a big thank you to Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority for their approval and assistance throughout this project.

You may wonder why we chose hemlock to build the boardwalk? Hemlock is a wood that has weather resistant properties similar to cedar, but comes at a fraction of the cost. Special thanks goes out to Vince D, Mike D. and Joe H., who possess the necessary construction skills and were able to lead our group of eager volunteers to complete the boardwalk sections. The two boardwalks were a large investment of time, consuming approximately 200 man hours over several weekends.

Joining the DMBA is not simply for the social ride aspect. Remember that it is the work of the DMBA advocacy and their membership dollars that put trails on the ground for everyone to use in the Durham-York region.

I didn't even know there was a MTB organization around here! That's sweet! Smile

I haven't had a chance to ride it yet, but I did walk it during the build day. It's going to be great to ride. Some nice rock work, nice bridges, some good berms and an optional "rock garden skinny" for lack of a better description.

Rode it this Sunday. Awesome work guys. Will be joining the DMBA for 2014 for all the trail maintenance, build and advocacy you do for cycling in the region.

Fantastic work! Can't wait to check out the new trails these folks have built. Now, to squeeze in a few more rides before the white stuff hits the ground.

At the end of "Logs Over Easy" hang a right on the double trail and you will see it on your left. It connects to "Ogre and Out".

Sweet looking trail, nice work! Any riding around Brantford?

Not sure about Brantford but heard of a place called Puslinch near Cambridge to ride at. Apparently it's awesome technical sharp and steep trails with many rock and root infested climbs; and flowly sections as well. There might be an association out your way, check on IMBA Canada maybe?

Spread the word about the S'lynch! I love it there, 4km from my house and just epic singletrack; and the majority of the trail was previously a gravel quarry so it drains incredibly fast! Here is the trail head:
