Absolutely, wake up Whistler! This whole festival model for mountain bike events does nothing for our sport except to promote it in a good light and facilitate a gathering of a whole lot of like-minded people, adding up to money for the hosts and sponsors, fun for everyone involved, and ultimately, growth of our sport. So to solve the 'problem' you've identified of a handful of pros not showing up, they should drop all the pro categories and only run amateur categories? Or drop the races altogether and make it a slopestyle event? Then maybe to support their slopestyle event in the future, they could run a handful of races and see who turns up...? /sarcasm>
Jclnv crankworx is a world famous event. Its just as important as the world cup so dont be saying they need to "wake up" im pretty sure they are doing exactly what they should be doing
Dude, sure its important, but for downhill its nowhere near a world cup... On the other hand, slopestyle-wise, crankworx is in my opinion the best event of the season
RedBullXRicer, is that why Trek, Scott, Santa Cruz, MS Evil, Mondraker, GT, and CRC didn't bother coming? The tracks are great but these whole cheesy sponsored events may suit Slopstyle but it obviously isn't working for the DH teams.
jclnv. nobody can speak for those companies but im pretty sure they have a couple riders there beacause of personal choice. im pretty sure the rest would much rather focus on the world cups.
I think it has to do with the cost of coming; A lot of companies don't go to CW because the costs are astronomical and it's a mad-house the entire week
Hardly any riders these days. When is Whistler going to wake up and realise they aren't anywhere near as important as the World Cup and that they should drop the DH for pro's at Crankworx and try to host their own World Cup race later in the year.
hey hey, theres no canada like french canada, and im a leafer for lifer! But jclnv is a frackin moron and should be deported to somewhere where mountin biking is still in the stoneage!! Tippie you broke yer mic you crazy loud freeridin maniac!
Why spend the money on pleasing the uci, when they can do their own thing without the hassle of a governing body? Hardly? Athertons are there, Giant is there, etc just because they aren't on camera doesn't mean they're not present.
Most of the big riders were there, they just didn't ride this race. They rode the Canadian open on the weekend and are now just chilling it and enjoying Whistler. Don't write of crankworx because of the Garb DH, No rider ever regrets going to Whislter, and no person ever regrets going to Crankworx.
