by Tyler Maine
Kokanee Crankworx, the biggest and most prestigious freeride mountain bike festival on the planet will kick off with free outdoor concerts Friday July 15 and Saturday July 16 at Whistler Olympic Plaza.

Whistler’s own Kostaman will open for reggae, funk, pop, soul and hip-hop musician/emcee K’NAAN on Friday, July 15. Then on Saturday, July 16 surf rockers Current Swell will take to the stage to open for indie stars Hot Hot Heat.

“Bringing these free concerts to Kokanee Crankworx’s epic line-up of events is very exciting,” says Darren Kinnaird, Kokanee Crankworx General Manager. “Whistler Olympic Plaza is the perfect location for these kick off concerts. With artists like K’NAAN and Hot Hot Heat on board and the most talented mountain bikers in the world coming to Whistler to compete, we are looking forward to our best festival ever.”

These concerts in Whistler Olympic Plaza are funded by the Resort Municipality of Whistler through the Province of British Columbia’s Resort Municipality Initiative grant.

Resort Municipality of Whistler Festivals, Events & Animation Program
The Festivals, Events & Animation (FEA) program is led by the Resort Municipality of Whistler’s (RMOW) Resort Experience department, playing a key role in producing and promoting spectator and participatory events, cultural programming and festivals in Whistler. FEA also funds the programming and operations of Whistler Olympic Plaza – Whistler’s newest venue for recreation and celebration. FEA initiatives and Whistler Olympic Plaza program management are funded almost entirely by the Province of British Columbia’s Resort Management Initiative (RMI).
