Some days you feel like a hero, hit every turn perfect, never miss a pedal stoke, backside every jump. Some days you think you’re a hero and then someone streaks past and you realize what you thought was warp speed was actually a snail's pace. In this video visiting Australian journalists Chris Southwood and Mick Ross get schooled by Rotorua local Keegan Wright, on a spring day on Rotorua’s infamous jumps trail. Accessed by the Southstar shuttle buses that depart every 15mins, this trail is in two parts. It starts out with mellow tabletops on Huckleberry Hound, then after you cross Hill Road, it becomes Little Red Riding Huck, the jumps get bigger and bolder and there’s a few gap/doubles to add some spice.

love seeing the 'no hikers' signage on the trail! Smile I could ride a flow trail like that all day, and with the shuttle service they don't even have to hike/ride uphill, so jealous!

Do you want to know why Australians make fun of New Zealand? It's because of stuff like this. We are supremely jealous of your country. With all your mountains and forests that make it the perfect place for all fun things. So we cover up our jealousy with snide remarks about fish and chips and Sheep. Also you're accents are hilarious to us. but mostly its the jealousy thing.
  • + 12
That's funny cause Australian accents are very annoying to us kiwis. Oh and I believe that it's spelt "fiss n chups" actually.
  • + 8
I think Lee Mack put it best when he said Australian accents sound like a record that won't start properly. Anyway as long as you have awesome attractions like this one you're just going to have to put up with Aussies coming over with their bikes and their accents to ride your trails, drink your beer and attempt to chat up your women.

Sic riding though Keegs u showed me some lines I didnt even know, I showed some Aussies some local beef, they got the "chute n root" of the message is all Ill say!

We just got back to Oz yesterday after a week in Roto, was it Thursday evening you showed those Aussies that "chute n root" action?

Either way, we had a blast and will definitely be back for more....of both the tourist and local trails.

Just spent a week there in July. Rotorua is wicked. Sadly shuttle only runs on weekends and Wednesday afternoons. So you still gotta earn your turns the rest of the time.
  • + 4
Summer time it runs Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:30pm till dark, and from a day or two after Xmas until the end of Jan they are running everyday. Braaaaaapppp
  • + 2
Plus it runs on public and school holidays. Also the hills aren't that big there so pretty easy pedal up, and then there's the rest of the forest, and rainbow mt, and hot pools... etc etc... Personally reckon Queenstowns better for jumps and DH stuff though. Roto's is more trail type stuff.
