Benoit Gurnel tests his new Commençal Supreme at the private spots that he and his friends have shaped over the last 3 years. A lot of mud, falling leaves, cold temperatures, and low light was the elements to play with and it turned out great.

We would like to thanks our partners FiveTen, Commençal and RawBikeShop for their help. We'd also like to tell you about our other supporter, Sulfur Components. Benoit's same friends that ride and build are also mechanical engineers that have set out to create their own brand with his help as rider and tester. This video was used in helping to see and understand the feel of the prototype stem and its resistance to hard riding.

The philosophy is to built things that are light, robust and reliable. In this case we have a 90 gram stem, including hardware.

I love the genre of music in this clip. I love that bike as well. Commencel really makes the bike look nice with the swingarm in perfect line with the top tube. looks simple and clean (although the rear linkage design looks anything but simple). RAD CLIP

Yeah seems not many people know about the measurement from the top of the lower crown to the top of the stanchion. It should only be 163.7 mm.

Check out the second diagram down on the link below.

I'm a bike mechanic and I love bike tech savvy people. Good job on the facts. The best thing about your kind, your bikes run like well oiled machines! No loose bearings, no skipping gears, no squeaky bottom brackets, brakes bled to perfection, and fresh cables. I could go on and on. You sir, could be my friend! (And whoever gave you negative props can go to hell)

@lordchewington actually I'm curious now, what's wrong with how the guy runs his forks in the video? as in what type of problems/stress will it cause? tire clearance shouldn't be an issue as the guy in the video probably would've noticed and fixed it once he saw the paint rub off his crown or get himself chucked OTB, that and his fork looks as low down in the crowns as it can go... pretty much what I'm asking for (at the cost of maybe sounding a bit stupid) is more detail in what the problem is and how to fix it

@Lordchewington. I understand what you are saying, however I asked a large UK suspension tuning company about those measurements and was told not to worry about it, just set the forks/crowns up to suit your riding style. To be fair all the pro/pro mechanics never seem to worry about it and you rarely hear about forks snapping.

Think its to cover fox when forks come in under warranty. "Whats that your forks weren't set up with the 163.7mm rule?! Sorry warranty void"...

Facts are facts either way..... however he doesnt seem like he could give another kcuf about it LULZ..

 Hi All,

This measurement is simply correct installation.

It will give you the correct geometry as specified by your frame manufacturer allow enough room for your fork to have full range of travel.

The top crown can be positioned to suit rider style, agreed, however this should not be confused with the ( top of ) lower crown to ( top of ) stanchion measurement.

@ lochsweed I am not at all surprised that the suspension tuning company told you this. I called several ( including the Fox distributor here in Hong Kong ) to find the link I shared above. It has nothing to do with forks snapping. It's simply correct installation.

@Yt-shredder Boxxer also have this measurement in their installation guide ( a different length to Fox )

@finrambo It's more of a case of the fork / bike performing at its best. The thing that stands out to me in the vid is the gap between the 'Kashima' markings on the fork and the lower crown is too big. ( So his top of lower crown to top of stanchion isn't 163.7mm )

@ masonstevens Thx bro. Merely trying to share some setup tips that came to me the hard way. And your character analysis is bang on.
