Luana Oliveira "the girl on a downhill bike"

Brazil is famous for its natural beauty, beautiful women, beaches, samba and soccer, but unfortunately bicycle is not included in the list. That being said, the sport has been growing a lot in the country in the past few years and every once in a while you hear about a Brazilian rider who made to the World Cup or World Championships, like Markolf Berchtold, or Wallace Miranda, or Tiago Velardi. We even hear about some of the Top 10 riders in the world going to compete in Brazil like Greg Minnar, Cedric Gracia and Filip Polc during the Urban Downhill race "Escadarias de Santos", not to mention about Gee Atherton racing in the favela in Rio de Janeiro back in 2009.

Even though, bike downhill is a growing sport in Brazil, it's growing on its own with the riders making it happen. In a 8,514,877 km2 country with more than 192 million people, there aren't more than 5 Bike Parks throughout the country and maaaaaaybe one or two of those parks have a lift...sad story. BUT that doesn't stop the riders from riding and the bikes from rolling down the hill!! And Luana Oliveira, the girl from Itu, São Paulo is an example of that. She is "the girl on a downhill bike" who impressed Rob Warner (and the entire world!) during the Four-Cross race at the World Championships in Canada in 2010 when she raced on a downhill bike and even though got 5th overall.
As a video-maker I decided to film her for 9 straight days with the help of Adilson Martins, and Guilherme Giansante in 2011 and create Luana Oliveira |in 9 days| to show how her lifestyle is and what happens behind the scenes when she is not competing.

The first Episode was filmed in Mairiporã, São Paulo, Brazil in a popular downhill trail among the local riders. The "Saracura" trail attracts riders from all over the state and it is the spot for many sponsored races. After an entire day of shooting, the first episode of this webseries was the reward for going up and down the trail several times.

Santos, São Paulo is the next city. She was training and living in Santos for a few months and the city combined ocean & downhill biking & BMX. What else could Luana ask for?
Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.

The third episode we get to know a few of the local dirt jumps in Itu, São Paulo. This is the place where she was born and even though she travels all over the world, she is still coming back for training sessions in her hometown.

In this last episode Luana Oliveira spends a day in some of the trails in São Paulo. The first one is a "must" for the riders, the famous Green Bike Park. Then she heads to a local BMX course.
