With next to no DH practice today at Val di Sole, combined with no filming of 4X allowed (UCI restrictions) what else was there to do other than MTBcut vs Wyn TV Wyn Masters takes to the mic...
I'll tell you why they restrict 4x filming. In 2007 Mt Saint Anne the Yeti team were filming with Clay Porter for their pod-casts or what ever and in one of the rounds Graves was knocked out because of a crash caused by one of the other riders riding over a gate, this was not spotted by a marshal. The Yeti team captain Damien Smith was really annoyed and as he had the offence on camera he claimed to have video evidence to use against the UCI, in the end nothing came of it but maybe there has been another recent occasion of attempts to use video evidence against the UCI.
The UCI aren't 'footage Nazis'. They own the rights to the events, and production companies pay huge amounts of money to the UCI to be able to broadcast them (which isn't a bad thing because that's what keeps the sport going and so it doesn't crowd up the event or ovesaturate the DH filming market by having multiple companies there at once). You have to respect the companies and the jobs of the people working for them, because it costs the companies a LOT of money to broadcast sporting events of even this scale. To put it into perspective, one camera is $85,000 and they had 13 of them on the track in Val di Sole. The OB van where everything is edited LIVE costs around $3,000,000. They have around 200km of camera cabling. Camera operators, directors, etc. have to be paid. You get what I mean.
Chilli, you are wrong. That's not why.
The reason is, Freecaster Pay the UCI big money to have exclusive rights over the 4X coverage. therefore no-one else is allowed to cover it.
Same thing with DH finals. Videogs are only allowed to film the last corner and finish line. Freecaster have exclusive rights over the rest of the track.
Seriously though, why restrictions on filming 4x? UCI are idiots!
