Maxxis SuperEnduro FIM World Championship in Liverpool

Nov 14, 2013
by Si Paton
A new form of competitive cycling; ‘SuperEnduro Racing’ makes its World debut in the UK, when it races into the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Sunday 17th November 2013 as part of the SuperEnduro Grand Prix Race Day event. The complete event will be recorded with highlights broadcast on TV.

SuperEnduro itself is probably the toughest indoor racing in the World and its new cycling addition will be right up there in terms of new challenges. SuperEnduro Racing follows the already very popular Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship for Motorcycles, but exchanges horsepower for human power and footrests for pedals. With competitors leaving the mass start grid (like outdoor cross country events) all the races promise to be fast and furious.

Course Layout

Enduro racing is the new kid on the mountain bike block and has capitalised on the weekend warriors hitting all the newly created trail centres created around the UK. Racing over numerous timed stages like that of a car rally has seen race numbers and events increase three fold over the past two years alone.

Racing SuperEnduro Racing here at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, indoors, especially in November is a dream come true for any mountain biker rider or spectator out there. Living and racing in the UK means each weekend we have to battle not only the tracks that lay ahead of us but the best or worst that Mother Nature can throw at us.

Racing indoors, in front of a 6,000 strong crowd will see the riders giving it their all, 100 percent effort and no doubt making some risky moves come the latter part of the race to make up that place and hopefully a step onto the podium. This is an event not to be missed.

A few of the top names confirmed:
Danny Hart - 1st at the 2011 UCi Down Hill World Championships
Adam Brayton - 1st British Downhill Series Rd. 3 Innerleithen
Kenta Gallagher - 1st at the 2013 UCi XCE Rd. 2 Czech Republic
Chris Smith - Freerider
Ben Savage - Trials Rider

An advert for a moto race with a cycling freak show in the middle for everyone to laugh at.

got media passes for the moto, will let you know how the sideshow goes

It's gonna be laps of people tripod-ing over awkward obstacles and probably some 2 mph OTB moments

it was more like people running over obstacles while carrying a bike!

Well that's disappointing, if not very surprising.

I dont get it. MTBing indoors is "a dream come true for any mountain bike rider"?? No, it definitely isn't.

Whatever you do, don't let the bloody UCI hear of this or it'll be a new national sport.

I just don't get it.... So if I'm reading it correctly it essentially is an indoor cyclocross race with zero elevation change (as in none of the short steep climbs and tricky descents that make cross so crazy and fun)? And obstacles that are plain ridiculous? In a real cross race there needs to be a blend of technical and power sections so that it doesn't greatly favor one type of rider, this seems to have no real technical or power sections. Yep, I still just don't get it.

Speaking of Adam brayton participating, I think it's him right of the second picture. haha

 Um.... :/

This advert definitely needs video to make sense. Is it just moto fans laughing at MTB riders running over unrideable obstacles like CX in the middle of Moto?

For goodness sake, give it a chance - once you've actually seen it then feel free to post your negative comments if you don't like it, but until then, give it the benefit of the doubt. If everyone took this attitude to something new, there would only be cross country races, nothing like downhill or 4x would have got off the ground!

Cyclocross is great. This is like the Redlap bikes of the cyclocross world.

It seems to me an extreme version of XCE, badged as "indoor MTB enduro" with no gravity......
