That base jump was doomed from the start. What kind of run in is that?
  • 9 0
Run in was stupid, clearly not enough speed ...
  • 8 6
He should go for rampage since he has balls that big.
  • 3 0
but what happened to the bike?
  • 4 0
the bike got caught in the parachute too
  • 3 0
That was dumb, you could see from the run in what would happen..
  • 1 0
U can see the bike kick out a little bit at the last second. He may have been able to get a little more air and possibly a little further out , that would have been all he needed
  • 2 0
^ Yeah but if he had ever ridden a bike before, he would have known how painfully slow he was going. That was just absurd.
  • 1 0
Personally, that jump was needless and foolish but not stupid. Clearly he took steps to minimize risk otherwise there wouldn't have been any ramp or emergency crew. Could he have done more to minimize risk? Yes. I know there are equations that give you an exact speed to complete the jump. Maybe he could have ghost ridden a bike off the ramp first. I know when I've accidentally done that it's helped me see if I was going to fast or slow. Maybe he could have jumped off the ramp with a squirrel suit first to get an idea of how it might work out. By comparison if Cam Zink had been totally blown off line by wind and missed the landing entirely he probably would have fallen a similar distance. The bike base jump was definitely foolish and unnecessary, but I think he wasn't completely stupid, although it could have been better.

The guy was an idiot, way to potentially ruin your life. Don't attempt crazy stuff if you have zero chance of pulling it off.
  • 2 0
 no brains,no headaches!

Would have thought a full face lid would have been a better option than a piss pot for the BASE jump guy.
  • 20 1
That base jump video was so stupid, that's exactly the kind of stuff that gives extreme sports a bad name and makes things difficult for the rest of us. If you look at any of the top guys across any discipline they plan what they're doing and know when it's not going to work, i.e. they take calculated risks. Just watching the run in for that it was really obvious that it wasn't going to work, and thus the "freeride mountain biking is just idiots throwing themselves off cliffs" kind of argument comes into it.

flag Dirt-time (Dec 30, 2013 at 11:15) (Below Threshold)
at least he got off his arse and did something
  • 1 0
Then landed on his arse, hard!

I have never done a base jump but even I can see that it was the most ill planned and stupid place to do it. I mean if the cliff face was a shear drop giving enough air time then yes it may be feasible but where they did it no. Also why make a video of something that went so remarkably wrong?
  • 7 0
Even though it went terribly wrong, I still enjoyed the video. For example if I crash on video, i want to show my friends. Not hide it from them

No comments on the Cairns track ?

Looks bloody awesome to me , bit of bike park bit of ugly , rooty ( how big were those roots? ) , rocky , plenty of speed , and little chance of rain ( so hopefully dusty as hell )!

Stan Rey is a super rad skier!
  • 3 0
Am I the only one who's tired of "Enduro" videos having nothing to do with racing? Enduro is a race format. Some of this "Enduro riding" just looks like an excuse to rock a FF while riding regular-ass MTB trails.
  • 3 0
Some nice videos, but i still wait for Island winter v.3 by aaron larocque..
  • 3 0
bike base jump bit lame really, was doomed from the start, i know its a base jump, but he needed more air time
  • 3 0
am i the only one that was hoping for a video of nick tingren, guy's legit
  • 1 0
Chris Orr is the man! Thanks for all your time and energy, it doesn't always goes unappreciated.
  • 3 1
 Haha Brendon's squeaky brakes
  • 3 0
 Kazu is so rad.
  • 2 2
okay what´s the thing way to wide bars and street-dirt bikers?
is it looks or does it help?
  • 3 1
wide bars provide stability, most street bars are around 700mm though not too wide.
  • 2 0
I suspect looks since most of the time you see their hands closer to the stem than the bar ends.
  • 3 0
The extra length is insurance. After bar spinning or whatever, you can accidentally grab further out than intended and still get a grip on the bar.
  • 1 0
shifted cinema has some interesting work
  • 2 1
The base jump guy took way too long to release the bike.....
