"whistler is probably my favorite place to ride"

 also
"when i get in the ocean i'm vulnerable, and i'm at the mercy of the ocean in every single way."

No truer words have ever been said. the last frontier isn't space, it is the untamable ocean.
Take this from an ocean lifeguard. no matter how much you think you know, no matter how tame it looks, it only takes one split second for you to be unconscious and under water. Be safe bros. we don't need more dead in the water.

We had a guard die at the Wedge. he was a 15 year veteran... its never safe.

thats a little dark. i love the ocean and nextyear im going to college so i can have a career on ships. most of the time id say its only as dangerous as you make it.
  • 3 0
I already have career on ships and let me tell you everything TFreeman said is true. It only takes a fraction of second for everything to wrong, whether you're just out swimming in the ocean or perched on the bridge of a 250,000t bulker. No matter how safe the sea looks, never, ever take it for granted as it will just as quickly come and stab you in the back.

I have a career in space. Deadly Dangerous, Apparently Not Tame-able, Fraction-of-a-Second Do or Die... Yep. Professional space exploration has many similarities to ocean exploration. FlowMasterO, you've probably chosen a college path to a career on the ocean because your instinct already tells you that you'll need all the knowledge and intuition you can build. Good for you.

@Allergysix do you still have time for mtb with your job and what happens if you get injured while riding is there a union that lets you keep you job. I know they won't let me go on sea term if i sprain my ankle so i guess im asking if i should still do action sports when im out of college
  • 1 0
I obviously still ride and race when I'm not at sea and just take the risk. The UK Union for seafarers is Nautilus, I'm not sure about the US one though but I don't believe that there is any way that they can fire you for getting an injury, my company actually wants people to be more active when not at sea so when I tell them what I do they think it's great. In all seriousness it is a brilliant career and you get to see loads of things that normal people can't even begin to comprehend, and as for riding time, well I do miss it on ship but then I like my job so much that it's not too bad, then you think of all the time off you get off as well when not at sea and it's even better. You could probably manage a good 2-3 month riding trip away (when not at sea) and it wouldn't have any effect on income or loosing jobs etc. So yeah, go for it!

Here we observe the case of pinkbike editors being smart, making the nation a little more productive by smashing all of your vids of monday into sunday, so you don't havta watch them at work, promoting productivity... Although, this is a little downside if you have a slow monday
