Hello everybody. We would like to introduce you to Big Creek Mountain Bike Park. We are set to break ground next week on the Southeast's first bike-only downhill and freeride park on a large piece of land in the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee. Located in the small rafting community of Hartford, Tennessee, Big Creek will be constructed to introduce a large number of southern mountain bikers to the world of gravity mountain biking. Only one hour from the cities of Knoxville, TN, Johnson City, TN and Asheville, NC, our trails will be designed to bring new riders into the gravity fold by offering a number of beginner and intermediate downhill and freeride trails as well as a progressive dirt jump and slopestyle park, and even a skills area featuring low bridges and skinnies, practice drops, small rock gardens, and a large pump track. Every piece of this park will be designed to help riders learn and progress by offering safe, well maintained features in a range of difficulties from beginner to expert. Since Tennessee does not already have an established gravity scene, our focus at first will be on trails that provide beginner skill building. If you don't consider yourself a beginner, don't feel left out, we are devoting half of the mountain to intermediate and expert areas that will feature large jump trails, steep single track, and big drops so no matter what your skill level, you will have something to test your cajones and elevate your riding. The Smokey Mountains in Tennessee have a very different climate than the mountains in the Northeast or Northwest, giving us the opportunity to be open 10 months of the year, meaning you can ride in relative comfort March through December.

We would like to point out that Big Creek Mountain Bike Park is not part of the machinations of a large corporation trying to balloon its profits by opening a new market for its products. In fact, we are 100% rider owned and operated, and consider this to be a family business. A Mom and Pop bike park if you will. In order to keep Big Creek this way, we are reaching out to the local and national gravity riding community to help support this project. In effect, your support will be directly helping to build the local and national presence of gravity mountain biking. What we are asking is a small donation to our RocketHub fund to help make sure this park is built with the best materials, to give us a better chance of providing you, the riders, with a better mountain biking experience. Each donation comes with a reward package that include free passes, t-shirts, stickers, coupons, or the opportunity to name your own feature or even your own entire trail. Every dollar counts immensely at this point in the project, so we are not asking for large donations, though they will be accepted and compensated with larger rewards. There is a time limit for these donations, and we regret to say that there are only a few days left. As a bonus for donating in these last few days, we will be doubling the rewards packages for everyone as well as giving every contributor a free invitation to our exclusive preopening weekend. So don't miss your chance to support the cause mountain biking in the Southeast and get some cool stuff. If you can't donate to the project, feel free to follow us on Facebook to get updates on the construction. Also feel free to offer us any ideas for trails and features you would like to see us build for you. Thank all of you for your support of this project and watch for future updates.

Actually, Tennessee does have a downhill scene.. it's just not huge. I am sure you have heard of Windrock and their race series. Who is behind this park? While I like the idea, I would be interested to know who will be doing the building/designing as that is what will make or break your park. Please take a lesson from Thomas Schoen and make trail art, and not the typical South East redneck shit that just looks bad and rides worse. Just because you can take a dozer in and clear a path doesn't mean you have a good trail. I think that's something a lot of our trailbuilders in the South East need to learn.

All the best. Looking forward to seeing some pictures of some actual trail at some point.

My name is Matt Roberts. I am aware of windrock and have ridden with many of the downhillers in east tn. Windrock is a great place, but their downhill trails only cater to experienced riders at the moment. My riding background includes downhill, and I have ridden some great parks around the east coast, but I have always been more of a dirt jumper. I spent five years building trails and jumps, mostly jumps, at Bigfoot in Knoxville. When the city sold the park to a mulch company I immediately began to search for a new place to build downhill/freeride trails and dirt jumps. That's where the idea to start my own bike park came about. The trails I plan to build over the next year will not be poorly maintained and will be built as pretty as me and my small crew can make them while also making them fun and functional. Thanks for you interest. Follow us on Facebook for new pictures as the construction process progresses. Oh yeah, and I will be asking local riders soon for their input on what they would like to see at Big Creek, and what their idea of the best trail would be, so if you have a type of trail or feature you would like me to put in the park, you will have a chance to get your input to me sometime in the near future.
