Those Nuke Proof Scalp frames are really good. It's about time someone came around and showed the bike industry that you can produce a decent and affordable DH frame that doesn't cost the same as a car. Love the team colours too!

Bought one a month ago. Very please with it. First full on dh rig

it was between the saclp and a slightly chearper morewood izimu, went with the izimu, but could easily have been the scalp, crackin bikes!
  • 3 0
I hope the biking industry will change a bit because now the prices are just getting higher and higher and some of the bikes cost allmost the same as a new car. The wierd thing is that the models on the bikes are allmost the same just that the better version mabe have a better cranks and u pay like 1000 dollars more for just that!
  • 9 10
Thats how it works. You dont want them too cheap though. Because then everyone will have nice bikes and if everyone has nice bikes, nobody does. But that sounds pretty selfish. EITHER WAY! those scalps look sick and great shots!
  • 2 0
The best will always cost. If the current 'top end frames' were 1000$s then people would be willing to pay more for better ones.... and so the cycle would be exactly where it is now.
  • 1 0
Yeah i think it should cost but not like 12 000 mabe like 8 500 because if they would reduce the price they would sell more and they would get more money and more people can have fun, and still the bikes would be rare, because it so high amount of money..

Most of the money is in the shock package and wheels. Built mine on a tight budget but had to make sacrifices on forks and wheels. Got the full build below 2000 with mostly new components

Also its a great frame to service the linkage is easy to disasemble and most of the bolts and all of the bearings are readily available from most good hardware stores not just bike shops.
The only grumbles i have, which are only very slight are that the paint job on the yellow one i bought doesnt seem very durable and the overall manufacture quality has the feel of a prototype ( the back end has a 2mm gap where the wheel goes in before you tighten it. The brace on the rear triangle hasnt been welded on quite straight)
Also its quite tight for chain devices meaning you can only sensibly run a max 36 tooth ring.
Bike is quite low too. Had to run 165mm cranks to help stop them clipping rocks
Seriously minor grumbles though really am enjoying the ride

Thats bike looks awesome. I know they have telescoping seat post but why so high. I once had mine high on my DH bike because i was cruisin down the road and i tried this little rockdrop on the side of the road and almost killed myself.
  • 1 0
They only raise them up high for the flat pedal section other wise they will have them down like normal.
  • 3 0
Definitely agree the bikes look great forks look so good ,i still think it's crazy how a dh bike can cost the same as new mx bike

Thats because here in the UK prices get jacked up, it costs around £6000 to buy a newSanta Cruz V10 over here, in the America its around $7000, which works out around £4400. I know there are import fees, but sheesh.
  • 2 0
That's cus our government are stealing bast**ds Blank Stare
  • 6 0
Exactly, high import duties make you consider buying a locally made product instead of an imported one, and the duties help to support the economy if you do buy something that isn't made locally. Or at least I believe that's the reasoning behind it.
  • 3 0
nothing wrong with local either! you guys got Orange
  • 1 0
That's all bollocks really, Santa Cruz dictate the prices their frames go for in the UK. That's why some US dealers won't ship outside the US. To be fair, most US companies convert the prices of their products into sterling just by changing $ to £. I'd never buy a Santa Cruz frame in the UK, I just can't justify spending that kind of money on one.
  • 2 0
Actually as far as I know Santa Cruz has a UK distributor that sets the prices based on what it costs them to get the bikes in the UK. And it costs them a lot more than it does in the US because of the import duties. Which is what I said above. Santa Cruz USA doesn't have anything to do with it, they sell their bikes in the US which is where they're made, no duties, cheaper price...

In the uk (and this is a rough guideline) 20% duty and then 20% VAT on that full amount. Add to that the mark up on wholesale to trade(which i would guess as anywhere upwards of 50% due to relatively low unit sales) then add at least 30% profit from trade to retail.
Easy to see how costs add up.
But makes you wonder how raleigh could effectivly set up a template of its nottingham works in taiwan at merida and still be competative. Along with many well known brands.
Think the uk lost a lot of it industry and inovation a generation ago to the far east.
Learn the lessons support local Smile
Sorry for ramble..

randy badger - yeah I think they're called the g-6 or 10-4, g-4 somethign like that. They were in MBUK.
  • 1 0
Nice looking bikes, did they make any changes from last years model? I saw this guy case a road gap with a scalp and the rear linkage nuked into pieces and locked up the rear wheel. Ugly case but hopefully that not a big issue with the nukeproofs.
  • 1 0
probably the neatest looking bike in the WC circuit with regards to how simple it operates and access to the rear shock. and damn, CRC has got the most riders in the WC circuit. that should increase their chances of succeeding, hopefully.

Looking forward to this year those colors really pop two tone paint ,next thing you know it they will be custom airbrushing frames .
  • 1 0
 Yea, where is big Dave?
Also, the Scalp was named after Moneyscalp DH trails in N.Ireland which no longer exists! The place has literally been scalped due to disease I think.
Bikes still look beaut though.
  • 2 0
Dave has been employed by giant factory off road racing and so now answers to danny hart and andrew needles

like the colours... sooo the top tubes have been made longer and the chain stays made shorter by request of the riders im sure i just watched a video on youtube a couple hours ago with someone saying the riders asked them not to change anything this year the bikes were perfect last year... Which is it!!! Now to find that link..
  • 8 1
COULD be the most aesthetically pleasing bike I have ever seen.

is it a good idea al bond is riding with a broken collar bone? 3 weeks after i did mine i could barley move my arm!
  • 1 0
Did you get surgery? My girlfriend broke hers last year and I was amazed at how quickly she was back up and running with a Ti plate screwed in there. Definitely a lot quicker than when I broke mine and put it in the sling..
  • 1 0
i got mine plated and 7 screws. i could use it after about 3 weeks but i couldnt put and strain on it, ie riding!
  • 1 0
Broke mine in two places, (my chin broke it when i landed on my head in an xc lid).
Inittially the hospital wanted to do surgery but when i got back to my local fracture clinic thier version of Dr Nic Reviera said "No need operation, is ok is ok"
Took 4 months to heal, have a little movement restriction in my left arm and need to throw my whole body round too look over my left shoulder.
thanks nhs
