James Doerfling and Garett Buehler spend a lot of time on the road. It's the way it is for any world class freerider. Drive from town to town, fly from city to city, all over the world, all in the name of taking mountain biking to the next level. This past spring I had a chance to catch up with the boys on a couple of different missions in BC. This is a compilation of four days spent shooting with both Garett and James at some of their relatively local training zones.
Welcome to Spences Bridge, where anything goes.
Doerfling and Buehler
Knolly's lineup of dirt-smashing, ego-lifting monsters.
A good way to get good at mountain biking is to take up dirt biking.
Yea boiii.
Doerfling and Buehler, on the pipe.
Out here in the perimeter things that matter, don't. Gotta' love BC backroads.
Mitch Cheek of Solos Productions, getting ready to chase Doerfling down the mountain on his snowboard for some interesting POV angles. It didn't work out.
Doerfling digging in.
Buehler and Doerfling getting their brown pow fix.
Check out the gap jump at the end of the line. If you let go of the brakes and send it all the way down, you can launch yourself into another dimension.
Buehler getting all video'd by Bjorn Aunet, for Barred for Life 2.
Doerfling squeezing one out of the monster's mouth.
Doerfling perfecting the art of the slash.
If at first you don't succeed...
...try, and try again. Doerfling, with his first Indian Air in four years.
Way past fast.
You'd hold your arm up in the air too, if you did what Doerfling just did.
If you don't try, you will never do.
Doerfling, cleaning house.
Doerfling, first descent. Somewhere BC.
Another thousand-foot first descent in his back pocket. Doerfling, Somewhere BC.
James Doerfling, five point bad mother-f*cker.
Homesteads of a long lost era. Somewhere between Kamloops and Cache Creek BC.
A bunch of sausages and no buns...story of our lives.
Spences Bridge camp spot.
Cleanliness is next to godliness.Doerfling is a believer.
Trainspotting with Doerfling and Solos Productions. Savona BC.
Doerfling charges harder than your mom.
Buehler's style is loose. So loose that it looks like he's out of control at times, only he's not; he's just having a better time then the rest of us.
Doerfling, negotiating the Hoodoos.
There is no payoff without work.
The payoff.
Buehler getting his seggy dialled for Barred for Life 2. Mt. Harper, Kamloops BC.
Hood in the woods.
The trails on Mt. Harper are fast...really fast if you're Garett Buehler.
There are few (if any) other MTB photogs in the business that convey so much in each shot- location, action, awe, and contrast. Gets me stoked to shred each and every time I see your pics.
I drove through Cache Creek after leaving Silver Star on my way to the North Shore. I was thinking to my self "Holy Fack, this is steep terrain, I wonder if it can be ridden." Glad to see some things are possible if you are a world class rider.
If my printer weren't such a piece of garbage pretty much all of these pics would be taped to my garage wall already, and since i just put a new set of v4's on my bike i'm esp. digging that one of the knolly's up top.
took me so long to get through this article because i had to keep opening the pictures to add them to my faves. really nice work margus, and Doerfling... just speechless.
the only thing lame about this article is all the moto bikes.. i dont come here to read about moto or look at pics of dirtbikes.
sorry but i went to school with all those moto tools and they thought i was cool with all of em cause i 'rode too' (even though it was without a motor.), they also thought they new a lot about bicycles cause they 'wrench on their own moto' (which most of the times was a lie)
PB, please stop putting the two together! if we wanted to see moto pics, we'd go pick up transworld moto, or go look at vital mx..
there's always been a huge crossover of the two cultures- tricks, clothing, protection, and general riding techniques. look at nitrocircus they do anything with handlebars and its extremely awesome. why the hate and general whining??
nobody likes to hear men whine. WHINING is for BITCHES and CHILDREN
