Walking to the demo.

Monday morning we were greeted to sunny weather as we exited the bus at Boulder City.

Intense Carbide with Cane Creek Double Barrel air shock.

Intense's all new Carbon Carbine Trail bike was looking delicious with the Cane Creek Double Barrel Air on the back of it.

Kenda Nexcavator and Excavator tires.

Mike at Pinkbike has been rocking the Kenda Excavators (right) on the front of his personal rides for the past 2 seasons, meet it's new big brother, the Nexcavator in 2.5 with Race Sticky Rubber (RSR) - approx a 42A durometer.

Kenda Nexcavator and Excavator tires.

Diamond Back Booth

Diamond Back Bikes made the pilgrimage from North West Washington to the desert for the Outdoor Demo.

Surly Mukluk Ti

Salsa's Mukluk Ti and Chromo versions were garnering a lot of attention at Dirt Demo.

Surly 3.7 tires.

Giant Booth

Giant's Danny Hart just won DH World Champs and Giant was winning Dirt Demo with the largest presence by my count.

Motorex Booth

Motorex Booth - Hydration for your bike.

Katie Holden - DH killer and resident cutie.

Camelbak Booth

Camelbak Booth - Hydration for the weary rider and a chill out zone.

Trek Carbon Session 9.9

Aaron Gwin has proven that this is a World Cup winning bike - Trek's Session 9.9 Carbon.

Chris King InSet 2

This headset could solve the woes of lowering your stack height on the many new taper offerings out there - Chris King's In Set 2

Chaz from Cove Bikes and the latest laser etching on titanium Hummers.

Cove Shocker

Cove's revamped Shocker was out looking for Playmates.

Commencal Meta AM

I can't help but get excited when I see this new bike from Commencal - it is on the top of my list of must try bikes for 2012 - The Meta AM.

Commencal Meta SL

Drop your travel down to 120mm, but keep the slack geometry and burliness of the AM and you've got the new Meta SL from Commencal.

Chris Tutton - Race Face's new CEO

Race Face Clothes.

Back from the dead - Race Face is here and looking good with a whole new line up of clothing and hardgoods - green is looking to be 2012's color.

Devinci Booth

Devinci unveiled their Split Pivot line up at last year's show and were on hand this year with even more models and refinements to others.

Oakley Booth

Oakley rolls into events with style and a presence - this is a bad ass set up.

Giro Feature

When Giro fazed out the Xen, they brought forth the Xar for the trail riders and racers, but didn't forget about the 160mm+ travel riders. All you Enduro and Super D racers that like to rock goggles need to look no further than the new Giro Feature.

Yeah but gotta like the Trek man ! I don't know what to think about the new Shocker, it's lighter and all but doesn't really look like the old one, wich looked crazy
  • 2 0
very much like the new commencal frames! the V3 is going to be my next ride!
  • 2 0
Agreed, Commencal frames have some sexy lines.

...I'd also love to see a write up/review on the "Cane Creek Double Barrel Air" pinkbike!

Call me a wanker but from personal experience, the first thing that comes to mind when I see a Giro helmet is tangled helmet straps...
  • 45 0
 you're a wanker Smile
  • 18 0
1980s called. they want their Vetta lids back.
  • 4 0
Slam dunk, fullbug said it all
  • 13 0
Bring back the XEN all of these new lids look nineties as hell Xen was and still is the best AM style ever IMO
  • 5 0
no one has made a helmet like the Xen...perfect balance of comfort / protection / ventilation / style / durability and low profile fitment Smile

the XAR is horrible, does not fit many Xen riders including me!!

thankfully bike distributors still have stock of the old Xen, might be worth grabbing one before they are gone forever Frown
  • 2 2
Urge's Enduromatic isn't bad. On sale right now at CRC.
  • 1 0
Buy a Hex, pretty much exactly the same helmet but with fewer vents and half the price.
  • 4 0
The Hex isn't the same... the harness straps come out of the helmet differently, in a manner which irritates me at least. I crashed hard with my old Xen, and tried to replace it with the Hex. I gave it away and found a new Xen in short order.

Also, that new helmet looks horrible. Are they jumping on the POC ugly bandwagon?
  • 4 0
I don't think they are jumping on the POC bandwagon, because POC stuff doesn't look nearly THAT bad.
  • 3 0
i just bought myself 2 more Xen's after trying a Xar on. So glad i did, now i'v got 2 helmets sat in their boxes for when my current trusty Xen serves it's purpose. Smile
  • 1 0
lol. wow mj46... i'm also a proud owner of a xen, but I wouldnt go that far... kind of liking the new trends of urge and poc... a simple of way of letting anyone know that you're not te regular xc rider..
  • 9 0
You guys have apprantly never heard of Fox Flux
  • 1 0
Flux doesn't feel like Giro's Xen, does not fit my head?

the cheaper Giro Hex does not feel like the Xen and does not fit my head??
  • 2 0
maybe you have a weird shaped head?
  • 1 0
I am weird all over Wink

the issue with the helmets not fitting is not just mine - several riding buddies who use the Xen have tried other helmets and found they did not fit?
  • 1 0
I hope those guys are joking a about that helmet, is horrible
  • 5 1
Call me out, but the Shocker really hasn't changed much in a really long time...by far the most old-school DH rig currently on the market. That being said, I guess if it ain't broke, don't fix it....
  • 10 1
It's the bike for privateers. Proven with results and it eats up race tracks, only begging for more.......Cove makes great bikes period. There are changes to the frame, it's a pound lighter, lower BB and some other tweaks.
  • 2 0
It was completely redesigned for '11.. I give it to you it doesn't look it, but w/dialed geometry and a great rear suspension it's hard to beat.
  • 1 0
owned the 2010 kinda liked it ... sold it saw they redesigned it for 2011 Slacker headtube angle lower bb lighter ELKA suspension great feeling rear suspension set up .... bought it ... LOVE IT !!!
  • 1 0
How god damn nice is the ELKA shock!? that bike just loves fast rough terrain.
  • 1 0
Pretty sure that's a Fox bro...
  • 1 0
Yeah, that is. but you can also get them with an Elka shock.
  • 1 0
ahh ok. ya i know a guy who was running an Elka on his Shocker and said it was great
  • 7 1
i dont ride am but that commencal is beyond amazing Salute
  • 1 0
I agree. Looks to be sold out on their website. I wonder how much the frame will be.
  • 3 0
I saw the Intense with CCDB air on Cane Creek's Facebook page a few days ago. Here in hi res, it looks good. Very good! The Meta SL from Commencal looks very nice too. I wouldn't wear a full red helmet though...
  • 1 0
Only thing I don't like about the CCDB without riding it is the chunkiness of the body and reservoir, I can see that limiting the amount of frames it can go on.
  • 3 0
anyone else a little confused as to why the 9.9 costs many thousands of pounds and is a show bike, but still has no bar ends?
  • 2 0
 gotta save weight somehow lol
  • 2 0
I thought you were joking because I always think of bar-ends as the things you use for climbing on a xc bike (I don't even know what they call them anymore). Got a good laugh, thanks. We always used to call what you're talking about "end caps".
  • 6 1
 Shocker looks amazing.
  • 3 0
 See you guys tomorrow!!! Bwahahahaha
  • 1 0
 new chris kings looks dope
  • 2 0
well i know what my new years resolution is going to be... to try and grab myself a Commencal Meta SL!!
  • 1 1
Is that a smash and Grab? Coz I want one aswell if you can hook me up! Haha!
  • 3 0
I´m not TREK big fan, but these 9.9 changed my mind!
  • 2 2
I've been running the Excavators as well, and holy crap these things grip like nothing else! They make you work for the uphills, but I have never had more confidence in the loose rough stuff here in AZ!
  • 2 0
What is that Sala bike designed for ? It looks useless for any kind of riding I can think of
  • 3 0
 It is for snow riding.
  • 1 0
..which is stupid...unless you live in Minnesota.
  • 3 0
 or sand races.
  • 1 0
Ive heard these big ole bruisers can be pretty fun in a singletrack situation as well as the soft stuff. The tyres pull you along and soak up all the chatter - once they are finally up to speed! Also that bike has a rack mount so its pretty good if your planning on using it as a camel.
  • 1 0
I also thought they where usless until I saw an article on bike magazine of how two riders whent on an epic trip in alaska where they crossed rivers, sand, rocks, and mountains. They carried rafts, camping gear, and essentials. All while riding fat tire Surley Pugsleys. They said they needed simple and efficient bikes that wouldnt break down on them and could ride all types of terrain. And it does make sense, fixed gear rigid Pugsleys did the job.
  • 1 0
The also allow the bike to float, as the air volume is so high, which obviously helps with river crossings.
  • 2 0
Spandex Man behind Katie Holden looks delighted to see he's in a picture...
  • 2 0
ZZZZZAP!! just got shocked. Cove aced it!
  • 2 0
cove's names are all sexual. you said you just got shocked. you know what a "shocker" is, right? maybe not... lol
  • 6 0
two in the goo one in the poo
  • 1 0
Two in the pink one in the stink
  • 3 0
Check out the glove 3rd from right at the raceface booth. Just sayin'.
  • 1 0
Haha well I guess the 3 of you have the shocker under control. God bless Smile
  • 1 0
Are Commencal going to redesign the Meta 4x to mimic the supreme too? as they have done with other meta's
  • 1 0
Not for 2012, the Meta 4X is the same frameset as before. I guess it'll get changed sooner or later though.
  • 3 0
 "fazed out?"
  • 3 0
Yep, just like on Star trek.
  • 2 0
Wait what??? No more Xen??? WTF? I need to stock pile a lifetimes supply.
  • 1 0
i just did. got 2 sat in their boxes waiting Smile
  • 1 0
So will those nexcavators not get a pinch flat if you hit a rock on the trail like the excavators always do?
  • 2 0
kelly green was 2 years ago, yellow is 2012 colour Wink
  • 1 0
Kenda doesn't need a new tire. They need to improve the quality of their existing line of tires!!!
  • 1 0
