PROJEKT ROAM: Chasing Gravity-Episode 2

It's hard to believe that nearly six months ago we said goodbye to everything we knew and stepped into a new world of unknowns. There have been many challenges, but who is going to complain about a life with a great freedom to roam and explore the bounties of North America's vast gravity fed trail networks.

In April we hit the California beaches and were greeted with balmy weather and the illuminating rays of the sun sparkling across the Pacific. We met up with local rider Damon Jackson Williams and rode the dry, rocky trails clinging to the mountains above the quintessential coastal town of Santa Barbara, California.


From the sunny, sand strewn beaches of California we headed up the coast with much anticipation into Oregon. Bend and Redmond, Oregon brought fun rides, new friends and interesting weather along with a very un-needed lower back injury.


Scrambling to make up for lost time spent on the sidelines, we dusted off the equipment and set out to test how good our muscle memory really was. Shellburg Falls in Lyons, Oregon was an ideal place to warm up. Jessee shredded the local trails while Colt used the solitude and serenity of the desolate forest to recover.


June started off with all smiles; Colt's injury was finally subsiding so we headed up to Mary's Peak just outside of Corvallis, Oregon to frolic among the mountain's root riddled trails. It's a great thing to get back on a bike after an injury and even better when it feels good to ride, so we carried on.


We soon found ourselves in biking nirvana out at the Black Rock Trails in Falls City, Oregon, where not only was the riding stellar, but the two of us were able to meet up with Dan Shell and Jarod Kuenzi. These two were kind enough to school us in the art of trail building and upkeep of this meticulously groomed network of good biking times.



With elated thoughts dancing about our brains, we advanced further on into the Pacific Northwest and up into the frequently rain-laden peninsula, home of Port Angeles, Washington. Much to our enjoyment, we revelled in quite a bit of sun on the days we rode and filmed. Good friends were made, good times were had.


A few more stops to come stateside and then across the border into the foreign dirt and forests of British Columbia.
