JD Swanguen interviews Bryn Atkinson before practice on Saturday morning. Bryn suffered a nasty crash in practice and broke both his femur and his arm. We're all wishing him good thoughts and hope he heals up quick.

Mary Moncorge of the Santa Cruz Alliance also took a serious crash in the same spot Bryn went down. She fell at high speed on her last practice run and a rock slab caught her under the front of her helmet, splitting her chin and mouth badly. She was discharged last night with several stitches and we wish her a speedy recovery as well.

Aaron Gwin had these custom XTR brakes with saint calipers installed on Saturday morning to use for practice and qualifying.

This new for 2012 upper crown for Marzocchi will allow any 4 bolt industry standard stem to be mounted on the 888

Justin Leov qualified fastest for the men. There was initially a lot of confusion about the qualifying results as several freeriders rode the course and messed up the mens timing. It took the officials several hours to finally sort out the mess.

Jaquie Harmony qualified fastest for the women, followed by Darian Harvey and Becky Gardner

Jill Kintner was looking fast in practice but after Bryn's accident she and team mate Lars Sternberg elected to skip qualifying to go the hospital

"She fell at high speed on her last practice run and a rock slab caught her under the front of her helmet, splitting her chin and mouth badly" sounds a bit stink but, course she would have had a serious crash on her last run, not like she would have gone back up and done another? talking from experience btw.

Aweful news of Bryn's injuries Eek Broken femur means out for most if not ALL the world cups. He's one of my faves for the whole season. Healing vibes for sure!

Platty is pretty rough in good weather, and it has been a wet month in NY. These riders are awesome to be able to race in that stuff.

That 888 crown is a God send. Maybe Mary needs a bit more spring in the back? Gwin's brakes are pimp. Wishing the best for Bryn!
