If you come to Bogota, Colombia, Monserrate is a MUST see place. It's a big and beautiful mountain with an elevation of 3,152 Meters, located just in front of Bogota Downtown, with a very important church and monuments on top, for the religious people, it's a sacred place.
Monserrate has a long path to get to the top, with around 4000 stairs made of rocks, this path is used a lot during the weekends, the people go up to pray and to take a look at the city, the view is marvelous.
Red Bull looked at this and decided that they wanted to hold a race on this path, one with jumps, wall rides, tons of corners, and lots of danger.
Last friday in Bogotá, this huge event brought out the best riders in latin america, and some special guests like FIlip Polc and Guido Tschugg, as you may know, in Colombia there are also very good riders like Marcelo Gutierrez (CG Racing Brigade), Mauricio Estrada (TLD), and some juniors who are developing, with big futures ahead of them.
The track was sick, all the riders where stroked and happy with it, just 50 riders got to try it in qualification, and only 30 got to actually race it in the final.
Filip Polc got first place, followed by the local Marcelo Gutierrez, and Alejandro Paz from Peru. Then forth went to local, Mauricio Estrada and fifth place for Guido Tschugg from Germany.
The event was amazing, as we've never seen one like this in Colombia, and a track like this, never seen in the world.
Ralph Hannah from the Guinness World Records was present, giving Red Bull the award of "The longest Downhill bicycle stair race".
It happend.
