He is said to be the “world’s best urban downhiller” and his goal for 2013 is to participate in as many urban downhill races as possible – Filip Polc has confirmed his participation in the Nordkette Downhill.PRO on July 20, the race with the closest dividing line between urban area and rugged mountains right above Innsbruck, Austria. Luke Strobel, Mitchell Delfs, Johann Potgieter and Austrian Markus Pekoll have also accepted the battle with the local heroes and ambitious amateurs. 4.2 kilometres and more than 1,000m altitude difference in the heart of the Alps – application is now open on www.nordkette-downhill.com!

Pro-riders from four continents – Africa (Potgieter, RSA), America (Strobel), Australia (Delfs) and Europe (Polc, SVK; Pekoll, AUT) – will take it on with those who know the ferocious track best: the locals. It’s a new challenge for both the elite group of pros and the amateurs, as they will for one hand try to beat Sam Hill’s track record of 09:21min from 2012 and on the other hand fight for “the winner takes it all”-prize money of 5,000€.
31-year-old Filip Polc holds the Slovac speed record for cycling on snow – 106.51kph; with the freak weather of the last couple weeks this could definitely pay off for the winner of the world’s highest urban MTB downhill race in La Paz, Bolivia, the Red Bull Descenseo del Cóndor, in 2012. Above all, the Slovak likes it technical and, just like Luke Strobel, who feels at home in the ruts, was part of the riders’ field in the past editions of the Nordkette Downhill.PRO already. Markus Pekoll is Austria’s best downhill biker and was in the winning “MS racing” team in 2012; whereas for Mitchell Delfs and Johann Potgieter it will be the first start on this monstrous hill.

Five spots are still open for the pros and after the season’s first races in Europe a few more have announced their interest to give it a go down the Scott Nordkette Singletrail in Innsbruck. Updates will follow!
For 90 ambitious amateur riders who want to challenge not only the pros, but themselves and their material, registration is open on the official website www.nordkette-downhill.com
On Saturday, July 20, this gravity-defying event will be hosted on Innsbruck’s Scott Nordkette Singletrail, right in the heart of the Austrian Alps. No other place in the world offers such a unique blend of urban flair and harsh mountain terrain, making this gravity-defying event a one-of-a-kind race, testing the athletes’ abilities.
