Toronto triathlete and adventure racer, Peter Oyler, returned from Florida, where he qualified to compete in the 5,069 km 2007 Race Across America (RAAM), which he is doing this June, in support of Kids Help Phone.

“This is a long-time dream of mine… it’s the ultimate cycling challenge. As I set out to achieve my dream, it is important to give back to an organization that is making a difference in children’s lives, so that they too can achieve their dreams.” An experienced school teacher, Peter Oyler understands the need for organizations like Kids Help Phone.Oyler hopes to raise $250,000 for Kids Help Phone as he embarks on this monumental athletic challenge. The not-for-profit organization is Canada’s only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone and web counselling, referral and information service for children and youth.

Given the advent of online technologies, Kids Help Phone requests have significantly grown in recent years. Unfortunately, thousands of requests go unanswered due to a lack of financial and human resources.

Oyler has already recruited three lead sponsors to date to help him on his endeavour. While College Pro Painters, Devinci Bikes and DECOSTA have made significant contributions to Oyler’s cause, he is still looking for more individuals and corporations to help him in his quest to raise $250,000 for Kids Help Phone. About the Race Across America

RAAM is the longest running ultra-distance bicycle competition in the world. Unlike the Tour De France, this is not a staged race - there is no set distance or time per day. In contrast, the race begins on June 10th in Oceanside, California, stretches across the entire country, and finishes in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Participants will race for nine to 12 grueling days.

RAAM is the ultimate test of endurance, strength and will. By the end of the race, solo rider, Peter Oyler, will have pedaled 3,150 miles (5,069.4 km) and climbed over 100,000 feet in an effort to raise awareness and money for Kids Help Phone.
