2006 was another year to remember for the Race Face Freeride Team and our International Sponsored Teams. Paul Basagoitia and Darren “The Claw” Berrecloth continued their domination of the Slopestyle circuit. Kurt Sorge and Wayne Goss strengthened their resumes and showed us they are ready to take on the challenge of playing with the big boys. Our international race teams, Commencal and Kona; both had stellar seasons and finished with a Crowned World Cup Champion.Race Face Freeride Team:

Paul started off the season with a 2nd place at the “Adidas Slopestyle” in Austria. He rounded out his competitive season by finishing 1st and 2nd at both “Redbull District Rides” and then was crowned the overall winner. In Las Vegas, at the world premiere of ”New World Disorder VII” (NWD VII), everyone witnessed Paul’s amazing talents again when he stomped out a jaw dropping segment.

Darren had his standard season, winning a couple of comps and nailing it in two videos, “NWD VII” and “ROAM.” He repeated his victory at the “Adidas Slopestyle” in Austria and “three-peated” his victories at the BIKE magazine’s “Monster Park.” To round out his amazing season, he hosted his own “Invitational Slopestyle” at Mount Washington, which is assured to become a mainstay on the international Slopestyle circuit.

Kurt, the youngest member of the Race Face team and winner of UFC IV in 2005, has quickly become a regular on the international Slopestyle circuit. There is a lot of buzz around this kid and his silky smooth style demands it. He has proven he can ride with the big boys and it will be very exciting to watch him progress and push the sport even further in 2007. Kurt - a young gun to watch out for!

After resigning Wayne this spring he came out charging and ready to impress. He worked hard prepping for his segment for “NWD VII,” but he took a pretty hard crash, which delayed his season. He was physically ready to compete by “Crankworx,” but mentally it wasn’t there for him. As the season progressed he began to regain form and competed in numerous smaller competitions to get ready for next year. Look out for Wayne in 2007!

Kona “Les Gets”:

Tracy Mosley had one of the most dominant female DH racing seasons on record. She was on the podium in almost every race she competed in. An absolutely amazing stretch of racing in 2006 and finished it off with the overall World Cup title. Way to go Tracy!

2005 DH World Champion Fabien Barrel started the 2006 season in his usual dominant form. He won the Oceanic Cup in New Zealand and then started to roll along nicely before catching the injury bug. He suffered two major injuries, a severely lacerated arm while filming for NWD VII and then he cracked his foot during training runs. We know he will bounce back in 2007!

Kamil Tatarkovicis a young upstart who is beginning to leave his mark on the 4X racing scene. He continued to close the gap on the competition as the season rolled along and he got his first world cup podium finishing, 1st place, at the final event of the year. Look out for Kamil in 2007 - this kid is primed and ready to take it to the next level.

From the Kona XC team Neil Kindree, Kris Sneddon and Barry Wicks all had strong seasons. Neil was the Canada Cup overall winner and pulled off an amazing victory at one of the toughest races around “The Test of Metal”. Kris had a consistent year, even after battling mono in the off season and was up for the challenge at all the races. Barry pulled off some amazing results especially in the short track format and has been killing it on the Cylco Cross circuit this fall.

Commencal:

Cedric “The Entertainer” had his usual season. Top ten finishes in almost every DH and 4X event he competed in and another outstanding segment in the latest NWD video. But a highlight from his season has to be winning the Omnium title at the “Sea Otter Classic”, which is given to best overall rider from the 4X, Dual and DH events. Nothing but the norm here!

Remy Absalon and Romain Saladini both had a strong season as well. Remy was crowned the European marathon DH Champion and won the Downieville marathon DH. Romain finished in the top 10 overall DH rankings and pulled off a 3rd at the avalanche cup in France. These guys are ready to take it to the next level so look out for them in 2007!
