Aston Hill Double Header Race weekend

Aston Hill, one of the most popular downhill mountain biking destinations in the UK, will be playing host to a weekend of racing on Saturday 31st August and Sunday 1st September.

Following on from the cancelled Black Run Race earlier in the year, all stops are being pulled out to cram two races into one weekend, with a race on the Black Run taking place this Saturday and a race on Root Canal taking place this Sunday. The weekend will also play host to a whole lot of other fun events, including Whip Off and Pump Track competitions.

You don’t need to be a pro-racer to race at the weekend as it’s open to all who want to race flat-out down some of Aston Hill’s finest terrain. It's also a chance to race against the home team, Team Aston Hill, who have just returned from collecting 1st place in four categories in the final British Downhill race of the season! This is your chance to challenge the fastest grassroots racers on two of the most challenging tracks in the South East of England.

The infamous Black Run needs little introduction with its steep sections, rock garden and treacherous root sections, and once again we’re using a tweaked version of the acclaimed Root Canal, home of the 2010 Eastern and Central Champs. As any Aston Hill regular will tell you, it’s a super-fun track with swooping sections and a few jumps before getting steeper and downright technical, with something to keep everyone happy.

Come race against or simply watch the fastest grassroots racers in England!

With support from the bike industry, including sponsors Madison, Lovelo Cycles and geebeebee media, catering from Cafe in the Woods and testing tracks, the back-to-back races promises to be a weekend for everyone, from pro-racers through to casual spectators, so come along and enjoy the action!

Prizes, Prizes, Prizes!
Prizes are up for grabs for podium places, including apparel, bars, grips, pedals and more! There is also a special raffle prize for all those who race at the weekend! The team at Roost DH will be giving the one lucky winner a holiday to Roost DH in Malaga, Spain. The holiday includes transfers, accommodation, breakfast and evening meals and uplifts to some of the most amazing and crazy tracks around the area! If your under 18 you will need to be accompanied by a adult who will be offered a discounted holiday.

There are also British Cycling Federation (BCF) points up for grabs, so if you’re points-chasing bring your licence, but you do not need a BCF licence to race.

All categories cost £30 to enter per race, apart from Juvenile and Youth, which cost £28. If you enter both races you’ll receive £5 back on the day. You can enter online for Saturday and Sunday via the British Cycling website. Should there be space left, all on the day entries will be £35 per race, per day.

Since we held a race on the black run last year, there are 3 new jumps, 4 new berms, a new rock garden section, and a massive start ramp. Trail crew putting in the work. It's going to be good.

Been there about 4 times this year and have loved it there every time ! Just wish the start ramp could have a run in facing the opposite way as well to make the other top half less pedally !

Thanks for the response , those plans look amazing , if it's as well done as surface to air then it's sure to be good !

Also which jump is being used for the whip comp ?

It'll most likley be the table on S2A or the one at the bottom of black run.

Bloody hell, I still feel like I'm 18 (mentally not physically). I'd have to enter the masters category these days, if I was racing...............which I'm not.
