Red Bull Divide and Conquer:

On June 16th, 2012, Red Bull Divide and Conquer will test competitors’ mettle on the mountains, rivers and shores of Canada’s unparalleled West Coast.

Red Bull Divide and Conquer is a multi discipline endurance race on Vancouver's breathtaking North Shore that will include mountain running, mountain biking and whitewater kayaking. The course will wind up and down over 6000 feet of vertical, starting in the old growth forest laden North Shore of Vancouver, then make it’s way down the Capilano River and finishes in the deep blue of the Pacific Ocean. The total distance covered by this behemoth will be no less than 70 km’s.

Categories will include women’s, men’s and mixed, but once everything is said and done, the first kayaker to cross the finish line will be crowned the champ, regardless of team dynamics.

Stay tuned, GPS map of the racecourse and Team Finder coming soon!

Redbull is seriously the most important single company in action sports. They put on some SICK events!

Its funny that you say that because a year ago I came to the same conclusion.
So now when I feel the urge to buy an energy drink I no longer buy anything but redbull. I don't buy monster's products or basically any other companies stuff.

Every time I buy a redbull I think of it as a $2.00 donation to a company that is deeply involved in and actively progressing every sport I love.

So will mountain bikers be competing in all the events? Or just the mountain biking?

My bad, didn't watch the trailer before I posted the comment above.

bit of a late reply, but it's called a Seal Launch when you drop into the creek like that and it's a pretty common occurrence in paddling

HOLY SHIT IT'S LIKE THE ULTIMATE TRIATHALON THAT HAS MY CAPSLOCK KEY STUCK ON!!!!!!!

Would love to see how they're going to incorporate Cypress into this, if at all. In my mind the course would be something along the lines of running up Seymour, then riding down Seyomour, across Fromme (loads of gain and loss). The kayak entry for the Cap would probably the Dam, with a finish around Park Royal. The X factor for this all would be how the Cap is running that day.

 could it get any crazier??
  • 5 0
First answer is no! but in the end you know something even crazier will come up soon and prove you wrong!!!
  • 6 0
they probably ad some airplane race to it and you have to jump out of the plane to high five the runner
  • 1 0
Technically, crazier is already being done. Remove the trail running bit and add a paragliding; although in some variants the paraglider has to run up a hill with the giant wing on his back.

Throw a few hungered tigers in the mix and you have yourself a race.

I want to do all three!

I like the 100 tigers Big Grin Maybe some crocs in the whitewater?! Razz

I agree that this is not a new concept, I think it is just new to many of the mountain bikers posting here.

Multi-sport stuff like this has existed for years. In Australia we have a Paddy Pallin series, an AROC series, a Kathmandu/Maximum Adventure 24 hour race (these include navigation), there's the Gloucester Mountain Man race and so on and so on.

And then there's the international The Raid series of races, which has been going for decades.

If this race appeals to your masochistic instincts then go to your nearest outdoor store and ask about such races. They are everywhere.

The Raid webiste states the disciplines could be one of:

orienteering, rafting, canoeing, horseback riding, camel riding, dugout canoeing, sea kayaking, canyoning, hang gliding, caving, skydiving, rock climbing, skiing, mountain biking.

Why do they throw their paddles when they huck the water fall? Great video
  • 2 0
my guess is that when you hit the water with such force the paddle gets ripped out of your hands anyways, so may as well throw it to where it won't hit you. But thats just a guess
  • 2 0
so sick! so is the biking all downhill?
  • 1 0
I don't think it will be because kayaking has to be all down hill and the course covers '6000 vertical feet'
  • 1 0
well most of the mountains here only have dh trails, I can only think of a couple pedal trails, an i believe non lead to the river.... so does anyone else know?
  • 1 0
70 km seems too far for downhill. Maybe more of an AM kinda deal.
  • 1 0
there is nothing more of an extreme team sport than this. This needs to be turned into a league or something.

 The kayaking is unfortunately tame...http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/10247/
