Contermanskloof hosted round 1 of the SA national DH series for 2012 this weekend. There was a good turnout and riders from all over the country made their way to Cape Town for the weekend. With a bit of a break from the intense summer heat, everybody enjoyed sub 30 temperatures and a nice cool breeze, though it added a good couple of seconds to the race times. The track was it same old self though - very loose and dusty.

Saturday's practice was slow to get going but in the end the shuttles did the job and everybody put in a couple of runs. Race day had a couple of tricks up its sleeve with both Stefan Garlicki and Andrew Neethling getting punctures on their seeding runs. Johann Potgieter was able to avoid the sharp rocks though and put in the fastest qualifying for the day. During the race run, he continued to pin it and took the honours with a time of 2:07:46, 1.16 seconds faster than Needles. The podium was rounded of with Garlicki in third, continuing the domination by these three riders.

Apart from a couple of minor crashes and punctures, the only big crash of the day went to Alex Mancini, breaking his shoulder in 3 places. We hope to see you back on the bike soon buddy.
