by Tyler Maine
Approximately three years to the date, the new ownership team of SDG COMPONENTS, Inc. acquired the Bicycle Division from SDG USA. Today, the passionate crew has substantially enhanced all facets of the brand and its organizational structure, all while building upon the foundation of SDG’s (Speed Defies Gravity) race-proven heritage. As the highly anticipated opening round of the WC season approaches, SDG is more than proud to announce the official 2012 Gravity Race Team Roster. With over 100+ global professional DH / Enduro / 4x race athletes onboard SDG saddles and the coveted I-Beam Technology, they are led by reigning WC DH Champion Aaron Gwin (Trek World Racing) and multi WC and World Champion phenoms – Sam Hill and Troy Brosnan (Monster Energy – Specialized).

Aaron Gwin: “I used the I-Fly saddle and Micro Post in my path to winning the World Cup Overall last year and there’s no better combination out there. The I-Beam Technology gives me everything I’m looking for in a saddle and post combo – it’s super light, strong and easy to use with the clean look that I like.”

Trek World Racing Team Manager and Director of 23 Degrees Sports Management, Martin Whiteley had this to say about the official signing: “Since 2004, I have always chosen SDG as our team supplier for both seat posts and saddles, as it’s plainly obvious to me they provide us with perfect combination of light weight performance and reliability through strength, as well as being super easy to adjust. SDG have been with us all the way as we’ve won three World Cup Team titles, both with Team G-Cross Honda, and last year with Trek World Racing.

Head Mechanic, Team Monster Energy – Specialized, Jacy Shumilak: “Nothing beats the strength and performance of SDG’s line of I-Beam seats and seat posts. Working with a company that takes our program’s feedback directly and goes into a production model is priceless. The ‘Storm’ line of traction saddles for ultimate grip is true testament of SDG’s contribution and support to our team and the racing community.

Sam Hill: The storm saddle is awesome! Anytime I sit down, whether it’s wet or dry, I’m going to have the best traction available.

Troy Brosnan on SDG

Troy Brosnan: The SDG Storm saddle is more than perfect for any muddy conditions – it helps maximize grip and stops you from sliding around when you take a tear-off! The I-Beam is super strong and also one of the light seats in the world.

All of our riders and team partners are true ambassadors to the SDG brand and their product feedback is invaluable to our success. I couldn’t be happier with our all star lineup – it’s going to be an awesome season of racing and I can’t wait for the opening round in RSA this weekend.” Tyler Anspach – President of SDG COMPONENTS.

About SDG COMPONENTS:
Inspired in the early ‘90s by the Huntington Beach, Calif., action sports scene and the Speed Defies Gravity mantra, SDG COMPONENTS has emerged as a leader in the global bicycle saddle market.  Love my Bel Air SL and standard i-beam post. No more creaking, ultra light, comfortable (for me), and looks sick. I waited until my old seat was unrecognizable and made the upgrade.

SDG needs to make a dropper post :/

You can get I-Beam compatible dropper seat posts. Gravity Dropper makes one; I think KS also makes one.

You're not actually sitting down much on a DH bike, granted and The I fly seat looked great and was strong, CF, creak proof, yada yada.. BUT I gotta say that the I Fly -I beam combo, for me, was so goddamned unformfortable. It was like it negated the 8inches of travel of my session. Everybody that took my bike for a spin noticed too. It was the lightest combo I ever owned but.... I am happily riding a WTB silverado/with a thompson post now.
